1v1 to goal (30 mins)

Equipment Needed

  • Large goal and 2 small goals
  • Soccer Balls
  • Pinnies

Session Organization:

Orange team starts with the ball and passes as shown above.  1 to 2, 2 then defends, 1 rotates to the back of 2's line. Blue player looks to be "tricky" and get to either open goal using their footwork.  If orange wins the ball, they attack the large goal.  If the GK makes the save, play continues with the GK trying to distribute the ball to their teammate. Once there is a goal or the ball goes out of bounds, the blue player becomes their teams GK and the Orange player goes to the back of line 1.
  • Set a scoring challenge: 1st team to 6 wins or a time challenge if it is taking awhile and then have them switch roles.
  • Introduce a scoring line if necessary, if players are not using their footwork and just shooting from distance.  Attacker must be on small goal side of the line before they can score.

Coaching Points for attackers:

CP1: Positive first touch, away from the defender

CP2: Attack the space quickly to score

Coaching points for defenders:

CP1: Press the ball and keep it in front of you

CP2: Proper body shape and footwork- No diving in

Two 8 min intervals for each team
