Session designed to encourage the group to work hard at winning the ball back as early as possible - from opponents re-starts.
It'll work through encouraging the players to recognise pressing triggers - which one's to go all out for - which might need patience.
We feel a defined pressing strategy will help them recover the ball quickly when out of possession. The team plays in a 1-4-3-3
Primary player - (9) will be encouraged to make the play predictable and force team to play down one side, reacting to pressing triggers if he can pinch the ball.
Primary unit - (9,7,11) will be encouraged to work together and recognise when they should be aggressive and continue the press together.
Secondary unit - (4,8,10) or (11, 8, 3) or (10, 7, 2) dependent on ball side... should look to react if opponent beats the 1st press and prevent forward passes. Applying pressure and closing down zones.
If time allows we will briefly look at Counter pressing during the game at the end.

Organisation
Start with an open game (always starts with GK)
Attacking team score in small goals
Defending team score normally - must start with a high line....
Details....
9 starting position - Make play predictable (show one way - block off switch pass)
Pressure on ball - always showing outside - make it predictable
Body shape, angle of closing down
One of MF may press CB on ball - MF shift across leaving opposite MF their only option
Ball down one side, other side tuck in - 7/11 become LW or RW in a 4
9 sets the tempo of the press - if he sprints and goes after a CB - everyone lock on and go together
Ensure that work rate is high and blue team react to pressing triggers.
• Poor first touch
• Tight area of the pitch
• Ball passed to opponents weak foot
• Backwards passes
• Player doesn’t want the ball
• Under-hit Pass
• Player facing back to their goal
(Players not involved - finishing practice with GK....)

Organization:
7v4 in 20x20 grid with 4 goals. Reds look to maintain possession and score a point with every 6 consecutive passes completed. Blues score by winning the ball and scoring in any of the 4 goals. 2 minute games and change the blue players with the subs waiting. Teams change roles once after 4 rounds. Keep score the entire time.
Coaching Points:
pressing together, make play predictable, read visual cues, block forward passes while pressing opponents
Players on ouside - passing the ball around outside of area, looking for good touch and weight of pass...
