Conditioned Practice; Shooting whilst under pressure.

A conditioned practices that focusses on short passes, creating scoring opportunities and shooting when able to do so.

Organisation / Area Size:

  • x3 teams of 4 or 5 each team having a different colour bib.
  • x20 balls split between the team on the outer cones.
  • x1 GK.
  • x6 2 minute 30 second periods with a recovery of 1 minute on the change of roles.

Explanation:

X3 teams, 1 team passing the ball into the striking team who will face the defending team. Outer passing team will be given a number 1-4 where the coach will call out a number and that player plays the ball in live to the striking team.  An autocratic practice with very little intervention from the coach.

How:

The coach will initiate the practice by calling out a number of the team on the outside and they will play a ball into the striking team.  the striking team will try to score by creating opportunities, whilst the defending team try to apply pressure and stop the shot.  Teams will rotate after the allotted time.

Conditions / Challenges:

  • 1st challenge; can the striking team create an opportunity and score within 6 seconds?
  • 2nd challenge; Can the defending team win the ball back and pass to outer player within 3 seconds?
  • Rewards; Strikers 1 point for every shot, 2 points for every goal, Defenders 1 point for winning the ball back or a deflection success.

Key Points:

  • What does our bodyshape tell us (flat, half or open)
  • Do we get over the ball when striking at goal.
  • Defending pressure, Cover, Balance (How quickly can we engage or do we need to engage)
