Outletting Rondo Both Sides

Description:

  • Split second quarter into square using pitch lines and a coned centre line
  • 4 defensive players in square, starting on a flat markers representing the centre and side of a front 6 zone
  • 3 attacking players in square, set up as a RB/LB, DM and HM
  • 1 attacking player on each end of square acting as a CB and HM
  • Attacking players work together to keep possession and move the ball from CB to HM. Once ball has reached HM it is reset to CB
  • Defenders look to act like zone which aims to force ball inside, they will look to block line and collapse on any balls played inside
  • Initially defenders can't step over 25 and pressure CB, this is a safe pass. Progress to pressing unit being able to step out
Players:
  • Build up players: Rosina Barton, Bethany Hutton, Amy Harrison, Jennifer Veitch, Christina Farrar, Emily McLean, Jen Lane, Bopi Monte, Kirsty Dinwoodie, Elise Miller
  • Pressing players: Stella Hunger, Rachael Campbell, Alice Farrar, Sophie Charlton, Steph Bain, Beth Macrae, Kirsty Cannon, Jennifer Tait
Aim:
  • Players explore attacking playing principle 'know your next action'
  • Players explore structure for use when outletting

Coaching points:

  • Consider patterns of play for outletting in this shape:
    • Bounce in and out of DM then shift to HB
    • Into DM and then straight to HB
    • Straight to HB and then down line to HM
    • Into DM who rolls and plays direct to HM
    • Etc
  • Know your next action. WHY? This helps you play quickly forward before defenders come.
    • Be aware. Scan to see where other players are.
    • Prepare body for your next action.

What does good look like?

  • Players recognise structure and potential patterns
  • Players scanning
  • Players knowing next action
  • Players moving ball on quickly
Timing: 10 mins
