Finishing From Cutbacks Technical Practice (15 mins)

Set-Up/Rules: 

  • Split the players in two lines as shown in the image 
  • Players on the end line sprint around the flag in front of them while the players with the ball run with the ball towards the end line ahead of them to perform a cutback 
  • After a rep players change lines 

Intervals: 

  • 3 rounds of 5:00 

Coaching Points: 

  • Wrapping hips around the ball for a service or shot 
  • Finishing with the inside of the foot 
    • Use the power from the service to generate pace in the finish

Finishing From Through Ball (15 mins)

Set-Up/Rules: 

  • Set up two lines as roughly 30 yards from goal in an area just as wide as the 6 yard area
  • Play starts with pass from line one to line two then a pass in behind the mannequins/cones/flags for a one-touch finish 
Intervals: 
  • 3 rounds of 5:00 
Coaching Points: 
  • Low finish to the corner 
  • Prep touch out of feet and strike through with the laces

7v7 Play Behind Practice (35 mins)

Set-Up: 

  • Half pitch with a 40x40 yard area in the middle and a target player on either end as shown 
  • Teams look to play off the target before releasing a player into the area ahead of the goal 
  • One player can track the runner 
Intervals: 
  • 3x7:00
Coaching Points: 
  • Cue: Lay-Off Pass 
    •  Reaction: Run from the blindside of the defense in behind the opposition and a pass to that player 
  • Progress to allow striker to spin off for cutback cross
