Agility game (15 mins)

Organisation

There will be 12 players, six will be given a red bib to wear and six will be given a blue bib to wear, these will be the teams for the second and third progressions. For this agility game players will be working individually in a 1v1 mini game. Players will be given a bib to tuck into their shorts/pants which will act as a tail. The aim of the game will be to score the most points. To score point players must try to get the opponents tail, once a tail has been pulled out the ball, that is placed on top of the cone, becomes live players must try to grab the ball with their hands to secure extra points. Players will be working within a yard of the ball which is placed on top of the cone. Each round will be two minutes long.

Scoring system

By grabbing the opponents tail you receive three points. The ball is worth one point. If a player gets the tail and the ball they secure a total of four points. The player with the most points at the end of the time limit is the winner.

Area

Total area size 40x20 yards. Players will be working within a yard of the ball.

Equipment

White board (to use for tallying scores), six size four footballs for the mini game, extra four footballs size four for the ball nests, six cones for the game, 8 cones for the ball nests six red bibs, six blue bibs.

Coaching points

Be on your toes ready to change direction. Keep your head up watching your opponent. Keep your back away from your opponent. Drop your shoulder and quickly go the other way to mislead your opponent.

Progressions

Set up a tournament system with World Cup as the highest, European Championship second highest game, Champions League third, Europa League fourth, Premier League fifth, Championship sixth. Players will move up if they win they move up the tournament system if they lose they move down.

Regressions

Put players with other players of a similar size to make it easier as they will have the same reach length.

Players

Total of 12 player, 2 players to each cone.

Time

1 minute to set up, 1 minute for the demonstration. 13 minutes playing time.

Interventions

Drive by – I will not use this as much on the agility game due to me pulling a player out will disrupt a game. If a player is really struggling I will use this and I will show them how to position their body correctly to avoid their opponent grabbing their tail.

Fly by – I will give players feedback and I will also keep reminding them to make sure they are watching their opponent so they can predict when they should be dodging their opponent from grabbing their tail.

Fly by – I will keep reminding players to make the pitch as big as possible by spreading out when their team is in possession. I will also tell them to make the pitch as small as possible when they are defending by pinning the attacking team into a corner, so they cannot play out.
