Working on combination play to Create & Finish the attack.
How can we create the attack, in what different ways to allows us to finish successfully and create goal scoring opportunities? How might we adapt the way we create depending on the given scenario/situation?

DIRECTIONAL POSSESSION X 2 (SAME IN BOTH SHADED AREAS)
Using spaces and geographical areas on the pitch that they would normally find themselves in on a game day to try and replicate similar situations, provoke similar behaviours and football actions
3 v 3 + 1 (blues vs reds and a neutral playing for both teams)
RULES
1. Blues will need to try and score in the mini goal in various ways such as
a) Passing into the mini goal from inside the shaded area replicating a pass onto a striker
b) dribble outside the shaded area then knock the ball in
c) Play through to someone outside the shaded area to knock the ball in
2. If reds intercept look to counter towards the mini goal and can use the floater to combine with. Can use various combinations to do so such as playing through to someone or playing to the floater, to set for someone else to then score

ATTACKING PHASE
2 teams set-up in half of a pitch x 2 (depending on numbers)
Reds (defenders) can set-up in whichever way they want and whichever way they think would best work for their team (as their goal is to protect their goal, defend their goal in an attempt to counter into the mini-goals)
RULES
1. Blues look to score in the big goal in a 4v3 situation to start with (this numerical advantage could change as the exercise progresses)
2. If reds intercept, can they dribble trough a mini goal for a point? Mini goal represents breaking a line on the counter attack. Must do this three times before they can switch out. 4v4.
COACHING CONSIDERATIONS
1. Ideally looking to get a shot away and score where the opportunity arises as a primary objective
2. If not possible, looking to exploit space behind the defenders - runners in behind, passing in behind
3. If not possible, looking to exploit space in front of the backline with combination play, to then create space behind their backline to play through to score
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
GAME
2 teams set-up in 2-3-1 (coaches can change the formations of either teams to challenge their players appropriately - providing different problems for them to solve)
1 of the coaches working with the other team would try create the other team problems by trying to pose various 'unannounced' problems that the other team wouldn't know about (i.e. specific challenges or even change of formation)
RULES
1. Normal game rules
2. Strict scoring system in place
3. If a team scores, keeps possession of the ball and get to start again from their own goal
4. Offsides, corner kicks and throw-ins in place
ROLE OF THE 2nd COACH
1. Cause the team problems
2. Pose various 'unannounced' problems that the other team wouldn't know or hear about
3. What happens if the other team decides to sit deep? how do we 'draw them out' to then look to play in behind?
4. What happens when the other team decides to press high and commit numbers? what might the other team do?
5. Getting the players to THINK before they ACT and play what's infront of them, where might we look to attack? what areas might we look to exploit? any weak or strong sides?

Technical Development (10 mins)
TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT - COMBINATION PLAY X 2
Working no various combinations such as playing through the pivot to reverse or round the corner or receiving on back foot to play forwards, or playing onto the deepest man to then set to then play out
Players in the middle can come up with any combinations they think it's most appropriate to a given situation.
3-4 minute rounds
RULES
1. Teams (blues, reds, blacks) get a point everytime they successfully transfer the ball from one end onto the other through ALL players
2. Teams lose a point everytime the ball HITS a player of a different colour, goes out of bounce, ball goes astray or hits a mannequin (we should not get tackled by a mannequin!!)
Players rotate every round
