Zone 2 Attacking
From GK, as CB's open up, and CDM's make their movements, the Wing backs stay in the outside channel, in Zone 2. Looking to receive from FBs, CDMs, CBs GK. Wing backs start in outside channel, looking to go into Half space. This creates space for FB to dribble into another zone. It also gives the ST or CAM to show into outside channel, as they run in. When they receive the ball, they are looking to get into zone 3 ASAP. Playing the overlap, breaking lines to the CAM or ST, or even combining with the CDMs to get the ball into attacking zones 3 and 4. These players need to attack with pace and confidence.
NOTE - When strong side Wingback has the ball, the opposite wingback sits 5 yards ahead of CDMs, in half space to anticipate transition from opposition
Zone 2 Defending
Squeezing into the width of the 18 yard box,10 yards above the CBS. dropping into a "flat 4" of a 1-4-4-2 within zone 2. The Wingbacks need to anticipate when transition moments occur for defending, tracking, and covering opponent. Looking to always a tight line with the CDMs. Forcing play to the touchline, while also pushing the line up with the CBs.

Zone 3 Attacking
Wing backs start in the outside channel, in Zone 3., the attack into half space/central cannel. Looking to receive from FBs, CDMs, CAM. When they receive the ball, they are looking to get deep into zone 3 or 4 ASAP. These players need to attack with pace and confidence deep into zone 4 outside channel. looking to swing a ball near or far post, cut in to shoot on net, or playing penetrating passes behind the shoulders of the opposition.

These players need to attack with pace and confidence deep into zone 4 outside channel. looking to swing a ball near or far post, cut in to shoot on net, or playing penetrating passes behind the shoulders of the opposition. Zone 1
Zone 1 Attacking
As FBs drive into Zone 2, if the Wing backs stay in the outside channel, in Zone 2/3 they are looking to receive the ball. If the ball is not played quickly, the Wing back should go into half space to give the FB space to Overlap. If Overlap is made, the Wingback must drop into the FB position, temporarily. It also gives the ST or CAM to show into outside channel, as they run in.
