Specific Practice - Breaking the lines - Through ball from central positions
The ball starts with the Red number 6 (hybrid defender/midfielder).
Throughout the practice players from both sides are instructed to try and play a through ball as soon as they see it.
It is important that when any player has the ball that their team mates try to make a run in behind the opposing team.
Sucess for either team is finding a player in behind the lines. Players are doubly successful if they can find a through ball that finds a player running into space.
Yellows are allowed to defend however they see fit within their shape but must try and push their defensive line high, in line with the markers on the touchline of the pitch as soon as they win the ball back.
Specific build up
Reds are aiming to play the ball in behind, either around, over the top or through. Strikers and wingers are to try and identify good running lanes and make forward runs. The following considerations are to be made when making attacking runs:
- Aiming to run into the defenders blind spot
- Curving the attacking run
- Timing of the run with the through ball and staying onside
Wingers are instructed to stay wide until they see the play developing and to make runs "from outside to inside". This is so they arrive and have the ball in front of goal as opposed to the through ball being played away from goal.
Reds should aim to have 2-3 players making runs each time a midfielder gets the ball.

Yellow Team considerations
If yellows are able to win the ball back they must try to play out from the back and score in the goals on the halfway line.
If the yellows win the ball back can they find their own through ball to one of their strikers?
Defending the breaking of lines
Fast pressure on the ball
Protect the middle
Stay narrow and compact
Stop defence splitting passes
Protect the space behind

What if? - Number 1
What if the yellow defence decide to go really narrow and ask their midfielders and strikers to leave the Red players out wide?
Solution
Reds should see that the space is now out wide. They need to look to exploit this by playing quickly to players out on the wings that will have time and space. Once the reds are in these positions they needs to be an empathais to having each move with a quality cross, cut back or pass that should lead to a high quality chance.

What if? - Number 2
What if the yellow defence decide to man mark their attackers and go man for man with the striker and the wingers?
Solution
The red midfielders and full backs must see the space left by the Yellow defenders doing this and try to make well timed forward runs. The wingers and striker should try to make the pitch as wide as possible and try to drag their defenders out so their team mates can run into the spaces that are left behind.

18 players needed - 1-3-2-3 for reds vs 1-3-2-1-2 for Yellows. Goalkeepers needed for each team.
Throw in's are allowed. There are no corners but the team that has the throw in can take it from where they choose but the throw-in must be taken within 6 seconds for realism.
Players are allowed to play and then a terminal break will be delivered with key information as to what can be improved.

If Yellow win the ball back they can score in the two mini goals at the halfway line.
