1v1 + 2 Keep Ball (10 mins)

Method:

  • Neutral player on each end - player in possession must work the ball from one end to the other.
  • Score awarded if the ball is successfully moved from one end to the other
  • The player in possession can't play the ball back in the direction it came from
  • Progress to one-touch for neutral players to increase the speed of the game

Coaching Points:

  • Players scanning before receiving the ball - aware of the movement of the defensive player

  • Players should receive the ball and move it away from pressure with one touch
  • Fast movement off the ball to receive it and play forward

Method:

  • 6v6+4 Rondo
  • The red team starts the practice and must keep hold of the ball while the Blue team attempts to turn posession over
  • If the Blue team turns the ball over the practice restarts with the Blue side now in possession
  • The winner is the team in possession at the end of each game
  • 3-minute games with 60-second rest

Coaching Points:

  • Continue to encourage players to scan before receiving the ball
  • Quality of passes playing to back foot to allow players move the ball easier to hold onto possession
  • Off the ball quick movements to create space and drag defending players

Zoned 9v9 Small Sided Game (25 mins)

Method:

  • 9v9 zonal game. Starts with a 3v3 in one half, a 1v1 in the middle shaded area and a 4v4 in the other half.
  • In possession team - the Reds - must play through the central area before being allowed to take a shot.
  • If the opposition turns the ball over - they should play forward to score as quickly as possible.
  • When the ball goes out of play, it restarts with the team last defending

Coaching Points:

  • Movement - once a player has worked to gain space they should look to accelerate quickly with the ball to move away from pressure.
  • Players should be explosive - move the ball quickly from their feet to get passed the defender.
  • After holding the ball players should be encouraged to change the direction of the ball
