Initial Tryout Field Setup

Setup:

  • Create fields for your age group to break into small-sided games after the warm-up. Ideally looking for 3v3 to 5v5 fields.

- 3v3 fields 20x10

- 4v4 fields 25x15

- 5v5 fields 30x15

 

  • Inside field place a cone in the middle to use for the warm-up progression
  • Have pinnies on one side of the cones for the players to put on when they get there

Turning and Passing Box (15 mins)

Setup

- Use initial setup for tryout to create box which will turn into 3 v 3 or 4 v 4 field. 

 3v3 field size 20 x 10 

 4v4 field size 25x 15

- Have one side of field in pinnies and other side in tryout shirts

 

Activity:

  • Players dribble to middle cone, perform a turn, and pass ball back to partner
    • Turn 1 - Inside foot chop
    • Turn 2 - Outside foot hook
    • Turn 3 - Sole Turn
    • Turn 4 - Cruyff

 

Perform each turn for around 2 to 3 minutes to help player warm up and to judge their ability on the ball via dribbling and passing.

 

 

Progressions:

  • Once players are done with dribbling warm up pick up middle cone and get them into small sided games.

Small Sided Games (30 mins)

Setup:

  • Pickup cones from dibbling box and make sure pugg goals or cone goals are in place for small sided field

Activity:

  • Tryout shirt teams rotate one way and pinnie teams rotate the other way
  • Games should be around 4 minutes at each field and then rotate who they play
  • Teams should play at every field so each coach has a chance to see them play

Progressions:

  • When rotation is finished pick up cones and split up teams into 2 big games across the field

Full Sided Game (25 mins)

Setup:

  • Split field into 2 to 3 game fields depending on number of participants and age group

Activity:

  • Let players play in as close as a full sided capacity as possible. If you have extra players or teams rotate the players/teams every 5 minutes through the two fields.
