Simple progression to work on Short Distance Passing

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Start with two players to a ball with static passing through a set of cones but then quickly progress to passing and moving through gates. Include periods of stretching and dynamic exercies in between and throughout exercise.
Ask "How can we get more gates?" "What does a good pass look like?"
Distance of pass (are we too close together?), Pace of Pass, Quality (where should we be striking the ball?) rolling not bobbling
Possible Progressions:
- Time restriction to get to as many gates as possible
- Must be moving to receive a pass as it goes through the gate
- Have to go to different color gate before going back to same color
Coaching Points:
-Emphasize the "check" mark position of the striking foot when passing (heal down, toe up, ankle locked)
-Emphasize quality of the pass [where to place non-kicking foot, where to strike the ball, pace and accuracy]
-Touch on where the player without the ball could move to best help their teammate

Start off with 2v1 to small goals with the defender initiating the game by playing to either one of the two attackers. The game ends when the ball leaves play or a goal is scored. A goal can be scored by either dribbling or passing through the gate. After set amount of time have players rotate to next line.
No more then 2 players waiting in line. If more than 9 players, make another field
To restrict defender from standing in front of the goal, give them a point for each time they are able to "tag" the player with the ball as play continues.
Coaching Points:
-Emphasize the "check" mark position of the striking foot when passing (heal down, toe up, ankle locked)
Continue to emphasize the quality of the pass
- Proper pace of pass
- Ball rolling not bouncing
- Accuracy
Focus on decision making [when to pass, when not to pass]
Slight emphasis on what it means to be open
- In space in an angle in which teammate can pass you the ball

4v4 with 2 neutral attacking players. Each team scores in one gate while defending the other.
After a set period of time switch the two neutral players.

A 5v2 keep away game with the players on the outside forming a tight circle and attempting to keep the ball away from the two players in the middle. When the defender wins the ball back they then switch with the player who lost the ball. This activity should be done as players are arriving with the purpose of getting them focused on the upcoming session. This activity can be altered to accommodate your current numbers; 4v1, 6v3, etc.
