Screen 1

1. Four Attackers in a Line (Key Runners)

  • These players start from the penalty spot or just outside the 6-yard box and attack different zones:
    • Near Post Runner – attacks the near post for flick-ons or direct finishes.
    • Far Post Runner – drifts toward the back post for rebounds and loose balls.
    • Two Central Runners – crash the middle, aiming to meet the ball at its peak.
  • Key Coaching Points:
    • Time runs properly – don’t get to the spot too early.
    • Be aggressive – attack the ball at full speed.
    • Sell movement with deception – fake near and go far or vice versa.

2. Two Players Outside the Box (Cleanup Crew)

  • Positioned just outside the penalty area for:
    • Clearing second balls – in case the ball is punched out or deflected.
    • Recycling possession – resetting the attack if needed.
    • Shooting opportunities – being ready for any loose balls at the top of the box.
  • Key Coaching Points:
    • Stay alert – react quickly to rebounds or clearances.
    • Be ready to strike – take first-time shots when possible.

3. Three Players Back (Defensive Stability)

  • Positioned in a triangle shape:
    • One deeper central defender (sweeper role)
    • Two slightly wider defenders
  • Key Coaching Points:
    • Be ready to engage quickly if the opponent counters.
    • Drop deeper if necessary to delay counter-attacks.
    • Communicate to ensure they cover the most dangerous outlets.

Coaching Drills to Reinforce This Setup:

  • Timed Runs & Finishing Drill

    • Replicates the movement patterns for near post, far post, and central runners.
    • Focus on timing and decisiveness in finishing.
  • Defensive Triangle Reaction Drill

    • Simulates a counter-attack scenario where the triangle players must read and react.
    • Emphasizes quick transition defense.
  • Cleanup Crew Rebounds Drill

    • Set up scenarios where cleared balls land at the top of the box.
    • Players practice shooting, controlling, and playing back into dangerous areas.
