Teach players skill, speed, strength and sense to score after receiving with back to goal

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Purpose: teach the players to use back to goal moves to enable a finish
Set up:
GK
4 players
Full size goal
3 manequins around 10 - 16 metres from goal
3 passers around 6 - 10 metres from manequins
Vary distances based on ability of the players
Action:
Attacker (shown with yellow vest) starts on manequin #1, receives a pass from a team mate, executes a move to enable a finish, then finishes
Attacker repeats action at manequins 2 and 3.
Let attacker have a total of 3 or 6 shots.
Encourage attacker to
- use a variety of back to goal moves to enable a finish
- use different type of shots: pass into net, curling shot, power strike
Coach:
Technique of move
Speed of movement around the manequin
Choice and technique of shot
Graduated pressure:
1) replace one or all manequins with a defender who applies passive pressure (doesn't try to tackle, just tries to block a shot)
2) replace manequins with unrestricted defenders

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Purpose: teach the players to use back to goal moves to enable a finish under full defensive pressure
Set up:
GK
Full size goal
7 (or more) players
Vary distances based on ability of the players
Action:
Attacker (shown with yellow vest) starts on cone #1, he comes forward and is followed by a defender (shown blue).
He indicates to 1 of 3 team mates that he wants to receive a pass
He receives a pass from a team mate, executes a move to evade defender and enable a finish, then finishes.
Cone #1 players leave the practice area and quicly return to cone #1 to reset and be ready for next rep.
Then players from cone #2 do the same.
When cone #2 players are done, cone #1 players go again.
Use 8 - 12 balls to allow each attacked to have 4 - 6 attempts
Then change attackers and defenders
Be sure to match up attacker and defender with roughly equal technical and physical development.
Encourage attacker to
- use a variety of back to goal moves to enable a finish
- use different type of shots: pass into net, curling shot, power strike
Coach:
Technique of move
Speed of movement around the defender
Choice and technique of shot
Make easier:
restrict defender to blocking shots only - no tackling.
delay defender's entry by 1 - 2 seconds, i.e. blow whistle once for attacker to enter, and a second time for defender to enter

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Purpose: teach the players when to use back to goal moves to enable a finish and when to combine
Set up:
GK
Full size goal
7 (or more) players
Vary distances based on ability of the players
Action:
Both attackers enter at the same time. Both are followed by a defender (shown blue).
Passer (red) passes to either attacker (Q: who's in the best position?)
Attacker has the option to turn the defender and finish or pass to team mate
If team mate receives, he has the same option.
When play is over, next set of 4 players enter do the same
Passer varies his position (any one of the 3 red cones) each rep
Use 8 - 12 balls to allow each pair of attackers to have 4 - 6 attempts
Then change attackers and defenders
Be sure to match up attackers and defenders with roughly equal technical and physical development.
Coach attackers to:
- make an appropriate decision about when to pass and when to beat defender and shoot
- use a variety of back to goal moves to enable a finish
- use different type of shots: pass into net, curling shot, power strike
To provide the attacker with a more obvious decision, encourage defenders to sometimes double up on the attacker who receives the pass from the passer and sometimes double up on the attacker who doesn't receive the first pass.
Make easier:
- restrict defenders to blocking shots only - no tackling.
- delay defender's entry by 1 - 2 seconds, i.e. blow whistle once for attacker to enter, and a second time for defender to enter

Warm-up - technical teaching
Purpose: teach moves which enable a striker to receive with back to goal, deceive a defender, turn with the ball and create space and time to shoot
Set up:
Players in groups of 4
Each group working in a 20 x 10 metre area
Manequin in the centre
Action:
At the same time, both end players pass into centre players
Centre players make the same move (see below for options) and pass to other end player
Centre
Repeat
Regress: groups of 3 and one ball (as per blue players)
Moves:
Choose 3 - 4 of these depending on the technical ability of the player :
Focus on coaching:
- technical detail of the moves
- feint one way before receiving and go the other
- put ball in a position from where you can shoot
- speed of execution
