Football/Soccer Session (Beginner): UEFA #9: Choose Eco Friendly Products

Choose Eco Friendly Products (30 mins)

• Split your players into 2 teams. Scrimmage type of game. 7 minutes each round (adjust depending on skill level and time available).
• Each team has two goals to score into, one goal represents a place they can find local fruit and veg, if players score in that goal 1 minute gets added on to the game time and they get a green cone.
• The second goal represents Coca Cola or some foreign import that they *like*. If they score in the Imported Food goal, the game loses 1 minute of play time and they get a red cone.
• Play and observe the choices

• What do Eco - friendly products mean to you? Have you ever thought about it?
• Which goals were you going for? Why?
• Why do you think we deducted time for scoring in the foreign import goal?
• Why is it bad for products to travel far distances?

• Play again but ask players if there are any other places that they can help replace Imported food with local food. (Local grain and rice etc rather than imported potato chips etc)
• Give teams 30 seconds to strategize
• The message in this game is, “products from farther away bring a higher emission cost”

• What is your responsibility in choosing eco-friendly products?
• What are the benefits of buying local products? What makes them eco friendly?
