Drill (15 mins)

Focus on the reds who are in the 4-3-3 formation vs Blue's defending in a 4-4-2 diamond midfield formation.

The ball will always begin with the server (6 on red team) who will play the ball into the GK. As soon as the GK touches the ball the drill begins.

The reds then have the objective of getting the ball from the GK into the server player (who is restricted to the centre circle) for 1 point or getting the ball into one of the small goals for 2 points.

If the blues regain possession of the ball, they have 6 seconds to score into the Big Goal they are attacking. This is worth 1 point for every goal they score.

Coaching Points:

-WHEN the GK gets possession of the ball, 4 and 5 need to get to the width of the 18 yard line and get themselves into a body position so they can play forward when recieving the ball.

-2 and 3 out as wide as the touchine and higher up the pitch

-When switching the ball from one side to the other, can we consider the distance of the pass and the quickest route to get the ball to the other side.

-When passing the ball, can we look to play with more speed by playing the ball infront of the reciever. This will help us speed up the passing.

Red team targets:

-Scoring into the small goals = 2 points

-Finding the server = 1 point

Blue team targets:

-Regain possession of the ball = 1 point

-Score a goal in 6 seconds after regaining possession of the ball = 2 points

Conditions:

-If the blue team regain possession of the ball, they have 6 seconds to score of the ball will be played back into the server to restart the drill.

- The server player (6) is restricted to the centre circle.

Problem 1

What do we do if our opponnents (blue team) perform a high and fast press?

The Red team will be encouraged to play a more direct route forward. This will mostly consist of the GK and his decision making. If the blue's are playing a higher press it will mean there is alot of space in behind them. Therefore, can our GK bypass the 4 and 5 and play a longer pass into the 2,3 or the 6.

Problem 2

What do we do if our opponnents drop off on their press and screen our way our rather than pressing to win the ball fast?

The red team will be encouraged to firstly move the ball faster and look to try and switch the play from one full back to the other. They will be encouraged to do this through the fastest and most realistic route.

SSG (15 mins)

SSG

Red Teams 4-3-3 formation (RW and LW have been taken out).

Blue teams 4-4-2 diamond midfield formation (Both fullbacks have been taken out).

Balls will be placed in either goal to ensure a quick restart.

Red targets:

-Switch the ball from one fullback to the other in a short period of time to attack down the spacious area vs the opponnents narrow formation.

-Can we score in the quickest possible time after the restart to get the ball forward quicker.

Blue Targets:

-Win the ball and score within 6-10 seconds, depending on what area of the field they win it in. (2 points for doing so).

-Once the play has restarted, can we speed up the press to make defenders job playing out more difficult.

Conditions:

-If the blue team win the ball, depending on the area of the field they win the ball, they will have between 6-10 seconds to score.
