Numbers:
How this practice works is by:
1. Splitting the group into 2 equal teams.
2. Get the two groups to stand behind either goals.
3. Then number the players (for example - if one group has 4 players then you would number them 1 to 4 giving a player one number each.)
4. You will stand on the sideline roughly half way between each team.
5. Make sure you have got all the soccer balls by you.
6. Once this is all set up you will then through a ball into the middle of the field and call out a number.
7. When a number is called it will then be a 1v1.
8. Once either a goal is scored or the ball has gone out of bounds, the ball is dead and the round is over. The players will need to return back to their teams, to start the next round.
9. Make sure you don't just call out 1 or 2 numbers, you need to make sure everyone is getting lots of repetition and exposure to this practice.
Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):
Progression:
- They have to beat the player before they can shoot
- Time limit - the players have 15 seconds to score
- Call more than one number out at the same time
Regression:
- The players can't tackle when defending - they can only jockey/guard and block the ball
- Make the field smaller
Rules:
Goal scored = 1 point.
If the ball goes out of bounds or if there is a goal scored the round is over.
Player must always be standing behind their goal, if their number hasn't been called, so they don't interfere with play.
