Passing & Dribbling gauntlet (10 mins)

Set up

  • Use as much of the pitch as possible
  • Set out 6 stations using cones, staggered as shown
  • Start with 2 or 3 balls then increase the number of balls used
Game
  • 1 or 2 players on each cone / station
  • Players receive the pass and then follow to the next station
  • When they receive the ball on the pink 7 station they dribble back to the start, avoiding the passes on the way
Coaching points to discuss
  • Receiving
    • Step away from the 'defender' to receive the ball, or start behind and then step in front
    • First touch in the direction you want to play
    • Scanning so to avoid the dribbling player
  • Dribbling
    • Head up, scanning
    • Adjust speed and feet 

Think STEP

  • Space - do you need to make it larger (easier) or smaller (more challenging)
  • Task - can you change the task or challenge?
  • Equipment - can you add target areas for example?
  • Players - can you increase/decrease the number of players?
