Description

Organisation and overview:

Set up a small sided pitch (40x45) with a goal at either end and a goalkeeper in each of the goals. Organise one team that is set up beside the goal that begin as the defending team with the other team having all five of their players on the pitch. In this game, each time

Once a goal is scored the defenders can add an additional player to join the game i.e. 5 v 1, 5 v 2, 5 v 3 etc. Until they eventually finish with 5 v 5. The attacking team must try and score five goals within an allocated time limit to win the game. If the ball goes out of play, a new ball is played in by the goalkeeper of the attacking team whilst the numbers remain the same.

Rotate the attacking and defending teams regularly.

Coaching Points:

- Creating Space - The attacking team should look to try and create width and depth whilst they are in possession of the ball as look to create goalscoring opportunities. The space created by their width and depth will help individuals and the team to be able to exploit it.

Weight & Quality of Passes - Faster passes as will help players to be able to take advantage of the overload and switch play quickly. This will help them to move defenders out of their shape as they look to try and create goal scoring opportunities. Players should also look to play into the correct foot based on what they’re looking to do i.e. play forwards or set the ball

- Movement - If players cannot receive the ball, they should look to move to be in a position where they can provide support for the player ahead, beside and behind the ball. Players may look to use double movements to help them tocreate space.

- Finishing - Attackers should look to try and finish across goal throughout this game to help them to score. This will also help players to be ready to follow up with a rebound as well.

Progression

- If the defending team scores, the attackers lose a player.

Regression

- Remove goalkeepers from the goals and add a score zone that players must get within before they can score.
