4v2 Rondo (15 mins)

4v2 Rondo

Set-up:

  • 5x5 yrds square (2) groups going at the same time, the extra players can sub in
  • Players leave their balls with the coach
  • Coach plays the ball in when it goes out, so we can go quickly
Goal: Look for the killer/split pass
  • Add 3rd DEF if it's too easy
  • Make the square smaller if it's too easy
Instructions/Coaching Points:
  • Don't force the split, let it develop by putting the DEF off balance with quick decision making.
  • Play for 2-3 min, then switch DEF out
  • ATT - Always move/adjust to support the player on the ball
  • ATT - Find the open player by scanning - keep your head on a swivel
  • DEF - One player pressures the ball, and the other player should try to read and cut off the next pass.

3v1 Rondo (15 mins)

3v1 Dynamic Rondo

Set-up:

  • (3) 5x5 yrds squares
  • Make groups of 4s
  • DEF holds pinnie in hand
  • Players should leave the balls in a bank
  • Grab a new one from the bank instead of chasing a ball that goes too far

Goal:

  • ATT (3 Reds) Keep the ball away from DEF(1 Blue)

Instructions/Coaching Points:

  • The man with the ball needs support on both sides, at the right angles, while in space
  • Quick decisions - find the open player early/don't wait for pressure
  • If no pass, the player with the ball should dribble to space - this is to create space for yourself, giving teammates time to find supporting angles
  • ATT - Don't close the space, adjust your position to find open space while supporting the player with the ball

Goal:

  • Get the ball from 4 to 9 or vice versa by splitting the DEF to get a point
Instruction/Coaching Points:

  • Receive pass with the far foot to open up the hips and see your passing options

  • # 2 and 3 move up and down to support - Don't hug the line
  • # 4 and 9 shifts left or right to support - Don't hug the line
  • # 8 drops behind DEF for a split pass to switch play
  • # 8 can get in front of DEF for wall passes to relieve pressure
  • ATT scan for open players
  • Don't force the split
  • DEF can't go outside the box - If it's easy to pass around, allow DEF to go out of box

  • Passes come from the coach to start the play if the ball goes out
Goal:
  • Make 10 passes to score a goal
  • Team with the most goals wins and avoids pushups, situps, leg lifts, or high knees
Instruction/Coaching Points:
  • Focus on keeping the diamond shape - in the diamond, whoever has the ball will have left and right support
  • ATT - make the diamond big when in possession of the ball
  • DEF - one player pressures the ball, while the others mark an ATT by making sure they don't have space
  • ATT - The team with the ball should use the team outside the box to help keep possession when possible
