Set Up: 20x15 grid. 5v5 plus 4 (3 bib colours) 10 balls
Organisation: One team of 5 (red) play on the outside of the grid in possession with 2 on each of the long side. Other team of 5 (blue) play inside the grid and try to block and win the ball without tackling players on the outside of the grid. Team of 4 (yellow) has one player on each end and 1 player in the middle of the grid and always play with the team in possession. It is a 7v4 in possession with the 6 outside players and the single inside player keeping possession by passing along, across and through the grid to keep the ball. When the inside 4 defenders (blue) win the ball they immediately transition to become the outside team using the team of 4 (yellow) and the outside team (red) transitions into the grid to defend. In transition a lost ball can be won back immediately.
Coaching Points: 3 types of passes - (1) in front of opponents (2) bounce passes to move opponents around and (3) passes through the grid to penetrate.
BP - being patient and moving players around to create space and penetration.
BP - Mimics playing out from the back if the end player is a GK (2 defenders either side and 6 dropping in)
BP - Body shape to receive and control. Pass to correct foot.
BP - Finding space between the lines
BP to BPO - win the ball back immediately and/or adopt transition positions
BPO to BP - open up quickly and make the space bigger to retain possession
BPO - first defender principles to close quickly, block and delay
BPO - second defender principles to stop passes between defending players
BPO - third defender principles of balance and communications
Progressions:
Change size of grid
Limit touches on the ball
Score by set number of penetrative passes or transitions and make competative
