General Layout

Warm-Up (8 minutes)

  • Dynamic Warm-Up/Activation:
    • Focus on agility, quick changes of direction, and acceleration/deceleration to simulate defensive movements.
    • Include light ball work with passing and receiving to engage players’ touch and awareness.

Activity 1: Speed Agility Competition.  (8 minutes) Extension of activation. Four teams split up. Player passes to coach on whistle, perform speed work, receive return ball around mannequin and finish first time.  Winner is the one who scores first. First up to 8.


Activity 2: Tactical 5v5. (10-15 minutes) 

  • Set-Up:

  • 30 by 30 pitch for a 5v5 game.

  • One team defends compactly (focusing on pressure, cover, and balance), while the other team aims to break down the defense and score.
  • Focus:

    • Defending team practices staying compact, applying pressure on the ball, and maintaining balance.
    • Attacking team focuses on relationism principles: combination play, quick passes, and exploiting spaces to attack single goal.
    • Ball starts from up top.
    • Defending team scores in one of three pug nets.
  • Instructions:

    • Defending team must win the ball back within a set time limit (e.g., 8 seconds) and counter quickly to mini nets.
    • Rotate teams every 4 minutes to maintain intensity.
    • Coach Kwame and Lucas and Chelsea corrects positioning and encourages defensive communication.

Activity 3: 10v0 Positioning Exercise (20 minutes) -Lucas- Build up / defensive organization / counterpress

Activity 4: Shooting and Set Pieces (30 minutes) -Gord-

Cool-Down (5 minutes)

  • Static Stretching & Recovery:
    • Focus on hamstrings, quads, calves, and lower back.
    • Light jog to cool down and promote recovery.
