Objective:
- First player plays a sharp pass into person receiving, defender presses to force receiver INSIDE.
- Receiver takes touch out and plays other side. After first round both directions, defender presses outside forcing receiver to take first touch in and play through.
Coaching Points:
- Ball rolls
- Is the defender pressing in the correct direction?
- Is the ball playable for the receiver of the ball
- Eyes away from ball (toward defender) (use of periphary)
- Press 1 direction, anticipate pass, slow attacker down, defensive stance technique
Progressions:
- Progress to receiver taking touch inside or out dependent on how defender presses.
- Can play back for give and go when defender presses outside

Objective
- 8 oranges and 8 whites in groups of 4, each in their own 8x24yd zones.
- Coach plays the ball in to oranges who attempt to pass through whites to their orange group.
- If whites intercept, then whites try to play to other white group through oranges.
- Emphasis on defensive 4 moving together and minimising space between players.
Coaching Points
- Communication between defenders
- Minimise distance between defenders
- 'Slide' across as attackers move the ball across the zone
- Triangle of cover behind defender who moves towards ball (after progression)
Progression
- One defensive player can enter zone of team in possession

Objective
- Full 1/2 field
- 11 players vs 4 attackers. Attackers move the ball around the attacking half, with the 11 defenders working on positional awareness.
- Defence no wider than the 18yd box, midfield three stay 10 yd in front, two attackers cover the holding midfielder and central defence.
- The third attacker (on the opposite side of the attack) slots into midfield to form a 4-4-2 defensive formation.
- When defence win the ball, play 5 passes to get the ball to coach. Play starts again from coach.
Coaching Points
- Defending team will be focusing on their defensive shape therefore must maintain disciplined, by not chasing the ball and creating gaps.
- 'Sliding' across the pitch when the ball is switched by the attackers, maintaining the same distance between one another.

Passing Warm Up (10 mins)
Objective
- 20-25yd circle, 3 groups, players number themselves 1,2,3,4,5 etc. 1 ball per group.
- Pass around the circle to establish sequence, quickly. The groups intermingle, passes and control types are dictated by the coach. Short, long, driven, lofted.
- Players then choose for themsleves to make it more gamelike.
Coaching Points
- Focusing on technique on the ball, movement off the ball, and communication.
- Are players intermingling? If a defender was involved, would they know which area each player stands in?
Progression
- Add a defender, create a 4v1 rondo.
- Can each player take 1 touch maximum, whilst still moving off the ball?
