ORGANIZATION: Create a grid, approximately 20x20 (dependent on size of group). Place players into pairs, try to match the size of players. One player in each pair requires a ball.
INSTRUCTION: 1st Round - One player starts with the ball in their hands and must try to keep their partner from "tagging" (touching) the ball. If their partner is successful in tagging the ball, they receive a point. Do this for 60-90 seconds and then switch. Who can get the most points?
2nd Round - The ball starts on the ground. One player must try to shield the ball and one player must try to tag the ball with their foot. The player shielding the soccer ball cannot move the ball. They must attempt to get their body in the way and the tagger to prevent them from being able to tag the ball. Do this for 60-90 seconds and then switch.
3rd Round - Now the player shielding can move the ball with their feet as they attempt to shield it from their partner.
Finish up with partners trying to shield the ball from each other, once they lose the ball they must try to get it back. 2-4 minutes.
PROGRESSIONS: Use your body to get between the player and the ball
· Body sideways on opponent, knees bent.
· Use your arm to help protect and know where opponent is going.
