Description

Organisation (Practice Layout & Transition)

  • 20 Minute SSG 
  • 25m x 25m 
  • 7m wide central channel with flat markers through the pitch 
  • Goal each end 
  • 8 outfield players and 2 GKs 
  • 2 greens wide, 3 reds and 3 blues in field

Objective 

  • get the players moving the ball back from side to side through the central channel with passing combination to then play forward and score 
  • working with players body position to "see the other side" when receiving 
  • can players run a slight angle before receiving to open body up to "see other side" 

Coaching Points 

  • "can you see the other side" 
  • "what are we trying to do" ... "play from side to side and then score"
  • mechanics of opening body up to see behind them / other side whilst receiving or getting into good space to receive

Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):

  • Progression - limit to 2 touches 
  • Progression - wide players can come in to give an overload on the In Possession team 
  • Progression - In Possession team have 5 seconds to complete a switch or turnover possession
  • Progression - In transition if you win the ball, you can go straight to goal  
  • Regression - add a halfway line and keep one player stuck in each half to make it easier for players to play through the central grid and to the other side 
  • Regression - back to unopposed until the In Possession team have completed a switch and then play live 

 

Conditions:

  • In Possession team use green bounce players on outside 
  • Bounce players 2 touches only 
  • Coach always plays the ball in 
  • Blues playing one way, reds play opposite way to keep it game realistic 
  • Play to whistle 

Targets:

  • Play through the central grid and combine to play across to the other wide bounce player and then you are live to score and if a goal is scored that is 1 point 
  • If you string 7 passes together because the wide players are blocked by Out of Possession team when you are live to score and get 1 point with a goal 
Challenges:
  • can you receive to see the other side 
  • can all 3 players In Possession team move forward together as soon as you are live to score after a switch 
  • can you limit to 2 touches
