This session is designed to improve our back 4 defending when THEY have the ball in Phase 2/3. It is also a high intensity session that should result in a CPL of 400+

Objective: to improve our body position, communication and movement when defending
Organization: 3 balls set-up in a triangle. 3-4 players in a line.
Instructions: players pressure the ball individually by forcing left, standing up in the middle, and forcing right.
Variations: (1) Add a second defender that communicates, (2) Put players in the 3 positions but just with one ball. They pass it back and forth. 2 defenders pressure and cover. When it goes to deep player everyone steps.
Coaching Points: (1) body position, (2) coming to balance, (3) communication.

Objective: improve decision making of back 4 when caught on the break.
Organization: 30x10 grid near the midline.
Instructions: Attacking team circulates the ball while back 4 work on pressure, cover balance. At any time blue can hit the ball wide starting the break. The strong side back must run around pole then recover. The other 3 backs may recover immediately. 2 of the attacking players plus the player on the ball go to goal.
Variations: (1) weak side outside back needs to run around the pole and re-establish connection with back line and inside position of runners, (2) include rest of the team who need to HIT THEIR SPOTS in recovery. Set up cones to designated their positioning.
Key Coaching Points: (1) Danger is in the box; (2) Delay by dropping central and not pressuring wide player immediately, (3) if out of position 2/5 need to re-establish connection with the back line immediately, (4) attach and mark up in the box.

Objective: improve our ability to mark in the box and clear the ball.
Organization: 3v2 organized at the top of the box with wide passers and servers.
Instructions: players play 3v2 at the top of the box. After a shot, goal, or clearance a ball is played from the wide. Now 2v2 in the box. Then a ball played from the other wide. 2v2 in the box once again.
Variations: build up the game so it is 5v5. Back 4 + GK VS 3 forwards and 2 attacking mids.
Coaching Points: (1) Goal side, ball side, (2) Touch tight on marking, (3) Challenge for the ball, (4) Blocks shots, crosses, (5) Clearances high and away, (6) GK communication.

Fitness: Dribble, Pass, Chase (10 mins)
Objective: improve dribbling, fitness, speed and agility all with the ball.
Organization: two poles 4 yards apart, followed by 10 yards, then another set of poles 4 yards apart.
Instructions: players dribble as fast as they can then pass through the poles to the next person in line who dribbles as fast as she can to the opposite line
Variations: (1) same as above but after you pass the ball you go around the last pole and chase the player dribbling.
Time: 12 min
Coaching Points: (1) go full speed (2) quality of first touch, (3) quality of pass, (4) agility going around cones get low.
