3 v 1 passing support (20 mins)

Objective

This exercise aims to allow players to practice their ability to shield the ball and wait for support

Description

In each square there should be 1 player from each side. There are two neutral players (N) who can move freely to create a 3 v 1 scenario in a square. Look to play 3 passes in a square before moving ball into any of the other 3 squares. If the ball is won by the opponent, the ball should be played by this player into a new square and the process starts again.

Variation / Progression

1. This can be started with a free passing exercise with 3 or 4 groups where one player passes the ball in, another lays it off and the third travels with the ball into another square

2. Progress then to the 3 v 1 drill explained above

3. Limit touches, alter size of area to increase difficultly and decision making

Coaching Points

1. Focus on getting support to the ball player quickly

2. Angles to receive and pass

3. Move the ball quickly from one area of the pitch to another...........move it out of the pressure zone
