Goalkeeper Focus

Organization

 • Action takes place in acentral channel 20-30yds. wide, and no morethan 40 yds. long. 

 • 5 yd. serving zone

 • 4 Reds (2 RCBs & 2 LCBs) + GK v 4 Blues  +2 Servers 

 • Blues attack the Goal andReds score by playingball into 2 small goals

 • Server can act as outletplayer for Blues whenneeded

Description: 

a. Play begins when Server passes to Blue Team 

b. Blues must combine to score on the goal. 

c. Reds must try to win the ball back and score by playing the ball into one of the two small goals. 

d. 1 Serving Player can step into the playing area to assist the attack if it hasn’t progressed after two passes. AnyServing player joining the attack is limited to two touches per possession. 

e. If the ball goes outside the line of markers play restarts from the Serving players. 

f. Play is always restarted from the Serving players.

Coaching Points: 

  •  CBs try to keep the playin front of you and holdthe line.
  •  GK be alert to close downthe through pass (cometo feet or intercept)
  •  GK call out defensive instructions to CBs
  • GK reads body language of player on the ball, anticipates and reorganizes the CBs accordingly

Coaching Points: 

  • Read the body languageof player on the ball 
  • Mark goal side; ball side – tighter near the ball & looser away from the ball
  • See the ball and the opponent
  • Tighten up as the ball travels
  • If you can win the ball do so aggressively. If not stay tight and force the ball back
  • Seal off passing lanes
  • Read the pressure on the ball
  • Good pressure squeeze the play and anticipate the pass
  • Travel as the ball travels
  • Poor pressure on ball, hold or drop off
  • CBs try to keep the play in front of you and hold the line.
