Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): Warm up: Tap The Cone

Set-up:

• Area Size: 25x25 yards
• Equipment: Cones in four different colours (red, yellow, blue, and white)
• Arrangement: Set up four lines of cones using different colours. Position two players facing each other on opposite sides of each line of cones. The coach is positioned on the outside of the area.
• You can easily duplicate this setup for more players.

Activity:

• Without the Ball:

  • The coach calls out a specific colour.
  • Each pair of players must race to the cone of the called color and tap it with their foot.
  • Continue calling out colors for a set period, such as 1 minute.
  • This can be repeated until all colors have been called.

• With the Ball:

  • Introduce the ball to each player.
  • Players dribble to the called colour and tap the cone with their feet while maintaining control of the ball.
  • Each lane can call its colours, challenging the player they are facing.
  • Swap players after every minute to keep the activity engaging and ensure everyone gets a turn.

Progressions:

• • Have players perform a specific skill move before tapping the cone (e.g., a scissors move or a quick turn).

• Increase Speed:

  • Challenge players to increase their speed and quickness in reaching the cones.

• Scoring System:

  • Award points for each cone tapped first and kept a running score to add a competitive element.
