Ball mastery (Spiderman Tag) (15 mins)

Equipment:

  • Cones
  • Soccer balls (1 each player)
  • Coloured Bibs
Set Up:
  • 15m x 15m square
  • Each player to have 1 ball at their feet
Activity Rules:
  • Each player to start dribbling inside the field of play
  • Changing direction, speed and keeping control of the ball at all times
  • Dribbling away from the coach and use skills such as Drag Back, Bells/Penguin, and Outside turn
  • Coach to coloured bibs (spider webs) to try and hit the ball
  • If a bib hits a player's ball, that player is stuck until freed
  • If player's ball touches any of the bibs on the ground, they are also stuck until freed
  • Players stuck must hold their ball over their head and make a tunnel with their legs
  • Players still free to dribble can free stuck players by passing a ball under their legs
  • Once freed they can continue dribbling
  • Last player standing after a certain amount of time they win
Coaching Points:
  • Small touches on the ball
  • Bend your knees and head on top of the ball
  • Jogging or running with the ball (no walking)
  • Use inside and outside of the foot to move the ball in different direction
  • Look up every 2 - 3 touches on the ball (scanning)
  • Take touches on the ball towards free space

Progression:
  • Add an extra spiderman
  • Make the field of play smaller
  • Shorter time for the game

Dribble Line Colour (15 mins)

Equipment:

  • Cones
  • Soccer balls (1 each player)
Set Up:
  • 15m x 15m square
  • Each player to have 1 ball at their feet
Activity Rules:
  • Each player has a ball each 
  • All players start dribbling into free space into the field of play
  • On coach's call of a colour (eg: Blue) all players must dribble to that coloured coned side of the field of play
  • First players to reach the coloured line and trap the ball wins
Coaching Points:
  • Small touches on the ball
  • Bend your knees and head on top of the ball
  • Jogging or running with the ball (no walking)
  • Use inside and outside of the foot to move the ball in different direction
  • Look up every 2 - 3 touches on the ball (scanning)
  • Take touches on the ball towards free space

Progression:
  • Change style of dribbling (one foot only)
  • Call 2 or more colours to encourage players to change direction using different skills

Tricky Goal Lines (15 mins)

Equipment:

  • Cones
  • Soccer balls (1 each player)
Set Up:
  • 15m x 15m square
  • Each player to have 1 ball at their feet
  • 2 lines of the square next to each other are set up as goal lines
  • 1 gate in the opposite corner of goal lines
Activity Rules:

  • Players to start behind the corner cone and act as the attackers
  • Coach to be the defender 
  • Players one by one on coaches call players start dribbling in a 1v1 situation with coach
  • Aim is to score by dribbling over 1 out of the 2 goal lines
  • Play ends if a goal is scored, coach steals the ball, or ball goes out of play
  • Next player starts when game before them is over.


Coaching Points:
  • Small touches on the ball
  • Bend your knees and head on top of the ball
  • Jogging or running with the ball (no walking)
  • Use inside and outside of the foot to move the ball in different direction
  • Look up every 2 - 3 touches on the ball (scanning)
  • Take touches on the ball towards free space
  • Change direction
  • Fast dribbling

Progression:
  • Different ways of dribbling 1 foot only or must perform a skill

Back to Back - 1v1 (15 mins)

Equipment:

  • Cones
  • Soccer balls 
  • 2 mini goals
Set Up:
  • 15m x 20m field
  • 2 end zones, 1 on each side in front of goals
  • 1 ball place in one of the end zones
Activity Rules:

  • 1 player from each team start in the middle of the field back to back
  • On coach's call of "Play" players race around their dfending goals and enter the field for A 1v1 game
  • Player on the ball side once the go around their defending goal the start dribbling the ball at speed in the field of play to score a goal
  • Opponent tries to stop them by either stealing the ball or force them out of the field of play
  • If defender steals the ball they try and score a goal
  • Game end if a goal is scored or ball goes out of the field of play
Coaching Points:
  • Small touches on the ball
  • Bend your knees and head on top of the ball
  • Jogging or running with the ball (no walking)
  • Use inside and outside of the foot to move the ball in different direction
  • Look up every 2 - 3 touches on the ball (scanning)
  • Take touches on the ball towards free space
  • Change direction
  • Fast dribbling

Progression:
  • Add a time limit for the game
