Area 20 x 20 Set up as above creating four 10 x 10 squares with with triangle zone marked at center corner. Players: 8-16. Set up for 12 players; four external players with a ball, four attackers/four defenders in each square. Defnders start from the central triangle zone.
Explanation: Play starts with Player O moving along a square sideline with a ball looking for a pass into the Attacker A, as the ball is passed Player D is allowed to leave the triangle zone to put pressure on A, O after passing is then required to move around to the other sideline. A takes a First Touch looking to get a pass away back to O along the other sideline, under pressure from D. A then moves to another square looking for a pass from another O, D returns to the Triangle Zone until a new A comes & receives a pass from O. If D wins the ball they pass back to O and the A must move to another square. Rotate groups every minute or two.
Coaching Points: Perception: where is the pass coming from; where is the defender; how close is the defender; where is space to take a first touch; movement of support player to pass back to. Decision: how heavy a first touch, get to ball away or keep it close depending on proximity of defender; body between ball and defender Execution: weight/direction of first touch, body position for first touch, body position towards defender
