4 v 4 + 3
Objective: A possession game that focuses on specific positional requirements
Blues begin with ball, utilizing the 3 Jokers and attempting to play the ball from end to end (i.e. between the endline Jokers). All effort is made to play through as many gates as possible during the possession to develop the positional requirements.
If Yellow steals, two Yellows quickly change with the two outside Blues while play continues (quick transition!)
Notes:
-To ensure use of gates, award bonus points for their use (i.e. 1 point for playing end to end without using a gate, add one point for each gate utilized)
-Game may be played as 3 v 3 + 3 if required for your particular numbers
Coaching points:
-Body shape upon receiving
-Utilize ball movement to free up areas around the gates
Progression:
-When the players have a feel for basic movements and patterns, remove the gates and continue, reinforcing the same basic ideas but allowing the players to expand the concepts beyond the original rigid requirements.
