Topic - Defending (Creating Overloads)
Technical Session
Players are arranged in pairs one red against one yellow.
1.Players play a game of gain and retain. Defender pressures player with the ball, the player shields ball from defender and attempts to keep possession for 5-10 seconds before turning defender and bursting away for 5 yards before stopping
2.Repeated 5 times
3.Swap defenders and attackers every 5 plays
Defenders apply pressure but do not tackle
Players with ball must beat defender and dribble to opposite end line.
Progressions
1.Defenders may tackle.
2.Players to roll defender both ways

Skill Session
Players arranged into two groups of 6
1.Session is a 2v1 session (1 defender and 2 attackers)
2.Attackers come out in pairs and attampt to get past defender
3.Defender encouraged to press high and win ball back early
4.If attacker's beat defender then the attacker with ball can enter end zone and shoot at mini goal.
5.As soon as attack is dead next group enters and defenders swap.
1 point for reaching end zone
3 points if a skill move was used to beat defender
5 points if defender wins ball
10 points if defender scores a goal
Progressions
1.Combine group and turn into a 3v2 (2 defenders and 3 attackers)
2.Time limit to beat defender.
3.Make area smaller to aid defenders

SSG
Players are arranged into two 2 teams yellows vs reds as shown
1 GK, 6 outfield players
1.Play starts only within the smaller white area to aid defenders success
2.If attacking team completes X number of passes, a player can break into end zone and take shot at keeper
3.All players are given a player to mark and track across pitch throughout
1 point for goal
2 points for beating a defender by dribbling
2 points for losing your marker and recieving a pass in space
Progressions
1.GK can charge off line once player enters end zone
2. 1 defender can follow attacker into end zone and try to tackle.

Practice layout
1.Main area is 34m x 25m, shaded end zones for SSG 25m x 5m
2.Main area split into two sections 34m x 15m for skill practice
3.Goals placed either end of pitch at back of shaded end zone for SSG
4.Two mini goals one side for skill practice
5.Two orange cones used as starting point for skill practice
6.Balls placed around area to aid breakdown and transitions
