Session Objectives
What? - Improve the team's ability to defend centrally from wide services
When? - When the other team is attacking in wide areas and serving crosses
Where? - Defensive third
Who? - #1,4,5,6 (in conjunction with #2,3)
Why? - To develop effective ways to deal with services coming into the box
Team Tactical Principles
1. Make it compact
2. Keep it compact
3. Stay in your defensive zone when the opponent changes position
4. When necessary, switch from zonal marking to player tracking
5. Anticipate the long ball played behind the defensive line
6. The defensive line moves as a collective unit

DESCRIPTION:
- Players on the outside act as servers (ball in their hands). Each outside player with a ball.
- Inside players look to check to a ball and work on 3 types of clearances.
1) Header
2) Volley
3) Half-volley
- Rotate players in 30 second bursts.

DESCRIPTION:
- Ball starts from the server who plays out wide to the crosser (alternate between right and left side).
- Once the ball is played to the crosser, 3 defenders go in from the top of the box to defend the cross.
- Crosser gets one point if the ball bounces inside the crossing zone.
- Defenders get one point if they can clear towards the clearance zone.
PROGRESSION:
1) One forward can now get in and try to score off the cross.

DIMENSIONS:
The course is made up of six pairs of parallel cones, approximately 5-6 yards apart.
DESCRIPTION:
- Two players start at the same time from the first pair of cones, jog along the inside of the cones and do the various exercises on the way. After the last cone, they run back along the outside. On the way back, speed can be increased progressively as players warm up.
