Block 1 - Recognise Player Movement
In any defending situation players should be aware of attacking players movement and the attacking picture developing there are a few things that can help you when the situation appears.
as the ball is played into the winger the blue full back and blue no8 are now the next passing options also they are creating a overload
: Red 6 will track the blue 8 cutting out passing lane
: Red 10 will drop into the space to help with the numbers
: Red 4 will slide across as well Red 5 & 3 if the blue full back attempts the overlap
: Every one has a job in the defensive team shape to recognise what is happening around them & on the ball , tracking runners , staying compact , protecting the middle of the pitch
(managing blue team - more overlapping & attacking runs creating overloads)

Block 2 - Leave the furthest players
In the defensive situation as the overload is being created and movement off the ball by the blue team happens the red team must put defenders around the ball and leave the furthest players. The priority is always the ball , so as the overlap occurs Blue team no2 & no7 are left out wide and free
: as the red team slide across & become narrow & compact they will leave the opposite side free
:Blocking passing lanes defending as unit & protecting the middle are key to delaying any overload or attacking phase
:forcing out wide or backwards is the reds team plan
: If a switch is made the red team will again press quickly and all slide across to the other side
repeating the process on the opposite side

Block 1 - Protect the middle
When defending the overloads it is vital that you protect the middle of the pitch & force play out wide . Getting defensive numbers in central areas will make this easier
: Full backs to tuck in slightly staying compact
: If blue striker drops into midfield Red CB can stay tight and follow as the full backs tuck in and make it a back 3
: Red striker must drop back in to protect overload & numerical advantage
: Delay, be patient & stay compact
Managing blue team ( striker to drop in creating overloads )

: close passing lanes & track runners

: leave furthest players
