SSG:
Blue team: 1-2-4-1 (8 players) Working from the back 11V11 1-4-4-2 I have removed the 2 defender and a striker and added a keeper.
Red team: 1-3-3-1 (8 players) Working from the back 11V11 1-4-4-2 I have removed 1 defender one midfielder and a striker.
Total number of players: 16 players
Pitch size: Half pitch.
Duration of the session: 15 minutes small sided game.Conditions, Challenges & Targets: After the specific practice of 10 minutes and a 1 minute break we will put scoring goals as targets for both teams, remove the conditions and yet challenge the blues to beat the middle third reds with the concept of overloads to attack and score. Any overload and successful creating and exploiting the space in the middle third before scoring will be bonus 5 goals.
Problem 1: Reds make it 2V2 in the circles marked in the middle third.
Solution: Double on it by using the extra spare defender or striker either way and create an over load and exploit the space.
Problem 2: One player on the reds is weaker on the left and our best player is playing in a different position to that scenario of play and the player of us next to the weaker reds player is almost same level and the principle of overload is not working even with a spare player.
Solution: Switch the positions, put our better player on reds weaker player on the specific circle and now use the numerical advantage and better ability player and the interchange of positions to make the reds commit in the middle third and we overload and exploit via their weaker flank.
Reflections:
The problems and solutions tried in the session gave a detailed, decisive decision making aspect of using the best of the principles of creating overloads and exploiting the space. Especially the second problem where I did a coaching process to interchange the ability wise better player on their weaker player had a good fine detail mastering of the concept of overloading. The specific practice was slow this time as this is the first time we tried working out a principle in the middle third of the pitch. But i believe the decision to test myself and go out of the comfort zone to tackle my knowledge into creating overloads in the middle third before the final third was a very creative and effective exercise. My action plan going forward would be to try the creating and exploiting overloads on a full pitch with 11V11 and see how we could now improvise the art of creating and exploiting overloads from middle third to final third hence keeping the principles of using numerical advantages, the when the how to find the spare player to create movement to make an overload by changing positions and making the opponent commit and using the ball speed to trigger the attack on time.

Specific Practice
Specific Practice:
Session Objective: Creating and exploiting overloads by using numerical advantages, the when the how to find the spare player to create movement to make an overload by changing positions and making the opponent commit and using the ball speed to trigger the attack on time in the middle third of the pitch.
Session Organization: I will be coaching the BLUE team with the principles of creating and exploiting overloads.
Blue team: 0-2-4-1 (7 players) Working from the back 11V11 1-4-4-2 I have removed the keeper 2 defender and a striker.
Red team: 1-3-3-1 (8 players) Working from the back 11V11 1-4-4-2 I have removed 1 defender one midfielder and a striker.
Total number of players: 15 players
Pitch size: Half pitch.
Duration of the session: 10 minutes specific practice.
Conditions, Challenges & Targets: The Blues midfielders are conditioned to play inside the middle third zone marked by the cones. The white circles highlighted shows two scenarios of creating overloads and possible exploiting of the space in front via runs and passes. The target for blues is to score. The reds target in the specific practice is to intercept and clear the ball out in 6 seconds to mini goals. The challenge for the blues will be to focus on the two circled zones to create overload and exploit the space behind to make successful numerical advantages as it is possible to have a 2V1, 3V1 & even a 4V1 with the movements of the blues players in both circles.
