Hockey Session (Under 16s): U16B Summer TDG - Session 3 - Out-Of-Possession

2 v 2 Rugby to 2v2 Hockey (15 mins)

2 v 2 rugby game - usual rules = must pass backwards

Blue team players 1&2 attack & try to cross the middle line; 

If succeed - pass to players 3&4 who attack back the other way;

Touch tackle - must stop & pass;

3 touches - defence wins & ball passed back to players 5&6 to try.

Coaching points:

- agility, moving sideways to stop the player running past

- body position for rapid movement;

- teamwork to cover 2 attackers

Progression:

Ball becomes hockey ball;

Same rules, with touch tackle becoming touch of the ball

Attack v Defence - inside 22 - focus = deny (30 mins)

4 v 4 inside 22 line

2 players + GK transferring outside 22 try to pass ball into attacking team who work to score

Focus on out-of-possession team - M-2-M defence - deny player receiving pass

If win possession try to score in side goals

Focus of GK outside 22 - kicking for transfer & communication of passing options
