Specific / Defending the Overload (10 mins)

Organisation:

  • 70m x 50m with tapers at the 'attacking’ start
  • 8 Attackers vs 7 Defenders (incl GK)
  • Assistant Coach organises Attacking (Blue) team

Coaching Points :

  • Understand When and How to defend against the opposition having Numerical Advantage

  • Establish Defensive Principles

Behaviour:

  • Delay the Attack
  • Deflect Attack Away from Middle of the Pitch
  • Defenders Put Body on Line Around Penalty Box
  • Blue (Attacking) players can go anywhere on pitch to create numerical advantage
  • Red (Defending) must stick to their zones shown by red lines
  • Blues score centrally (1 point)
  • Reds score in 2 small goals via a counter attack (3 points)

Distribution:

  • Coach plays to any Blue attacker to commence the play

(Synchronised) Key terminology:

Organisation:

  • 70m x 50m with tapers at one end
  • 9 Attackers (incl GK) vs 8 Defenders (incl GK)
  • Assistant Coach organises Attacking (Blue) team

Coaching Points:

  • Understand When and How to Defend opposition having numerical advantage
  • Establish Defensive Principles
  • Delay the Attack
  • Deflect Attack Away from Middle of the Pitch
  • Defenders Put Body on Line Around Penalty Box

Explanation:

  • Red lines only left for guidance - not in play - all players can move anywhere
  • Blues have extra man to create numerical advantage in open play
  • Blue score in goal (1 point); Red score in goal (1 point) or if after defending their box and starting counter-attack (2 points)
