Football/Soccer Session (Moderate): PRACTICE PLAN WEEK 5 BLOCK 3 (CHANGING TEMPO)

CHANGING TEMPO ON THE BALL (10 mins)
SET UP:(2) CONES SPACED OUT @ 10 YARDS WITH AN OPPOSITE COLORED CONE @ 5 YARDS IN BETWEEN GROUPS OF 4-6 PLAYERS
INSTRUCTIONS: TO BEGIN THE ACTIVITY THE FIRST PLAYER WILL DRIBBLE TO THE HALFWAY CONE & THEN MAKE A PASS. ONCE THE PASS IS MADE, THE PLAYER WILL CHASE THE PLAYER WITH THE BALL TO TRY & CATCH THEM BEFORE THEY MAKE A PASS AT THE HALF WAY POINT ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE GRID.
AFTER THE SEQUENCE IS COMPLETED THE CHASING PLAYER MOVES TO THE OPPOSITE LINE.
FOCUS: CHANGE OF TEMPO & SPEED.
PLAYERS CAN NOT PASS BEFORE THE HALF WAY POINT ON EITHER SIDE.

CHANGING TEMPO USING CUTS & FEINTS (15 mins)
SET UP: 30 YARD GRID WITH A POLE IN THE MIDDLE @ 15 YARDS & A NET @ EITHER END 4-5 YARDS OFF SET OUT TO ACOMODATE FOR A CUT & TEMPO CHANGE. SPLIT TEAMS INTO 2 EVEN GROUPS
INSTRUCTIONS: PLAYERS WILL DRIBBLE UP & MAKE AN OUSIDE CUT, THEN ACCELERATE TO THE CONE BEFORE MAKING A PASS TO A PLAYER. THE PLAYER WHO MADE THE PASS WILL FOLLOW THEIR PASS. THE RECIEVING PLAYER MOVE TO THE BACK OF THE LINE.

3v2 Counter Attack (15 mins)
The concept of this session is to encourage a quick transition from the offensive side of the ball to the defensive side of the ball.
- Players, 1,2, & 3 from the Pink will start the attack & Players A, & B from the red team will defend.
- Once the 3 Pink attacking players cross the halfway point of the grid, players 4, & 5 from the pink team will slide in behind to act as defenders when the counter attack comes at them.
- Once the sequence of attack is over (pink is dispossessed of the ball or it goes out of bounds) Players 1,2 & 3 will leave the grid.
- When the ball is won by red or the play is dead, player C from red will join in the counter attack with players A, & B.
- Players 4, & 5 will now defend against the Red counter attack.
The continuous rotation of counter attacking and defending repeats.
Focus: Defending players sliding in behind attacking team mates. Quick transition from defending to attacking.

AGILITY WARMUP (15 mins)
SET UP: 6 CONES (4) SPACED 5 YARDS APART & (1) 5 YARDS OUT FROM THE 1ST CONE)
(2) LADDERS, 4 HURDLES 2 BALLS IN EACH LINE
INSTRUCTIONS: PLAYERS WILL START OUT BY DRIBBLING FROM THE 1ST CONE TO TNE 2ND CONE. THEY LEAVE THE BALL @ THE 2ND CONE AND JOG BACKWARDS TO THE 1ST CONE BEFORE EXPLODING BACK UP TO THE BALL & REPEATING THE PROCESS TO THE 3RD CONE, THEN THE 4TH CONE. ONCE THEY REACH THE LAST CONE THEY WILL TURN WITH THE BALL & PASS TO THE NEXT PLAYER IN LINE.
(BOTH PLAYERS WHO STARTED WITH THE BALL SHOULD BE IN THE PROCESS OF GOING THROUGH SO THERE SHOULD BE NOBODY WAITING IN LINE WITH A BALL.)
ONCE A PLAYER HAS PASSED THE BALL THEY WILL PERFORM A MOVEMENT THROUGH THE LADDER (COACHES INSTRUCTION) AND THEN PERFORM A MOVEMENT USING THE HURDLES. (COACHES INSTRUCTION) BEFORE JOGGING BACK INTO THE LINE WAITING FOR A PASS TO GO THROUGH AGAIN.
FOCUS: INCREASED TEMPO BY EXPLODING FORWARD TO THE BALL, GOING THROUGH THE LADDER & HURDLES. IN BETWEEN IT IS JOGGING.
