Block 2 (Aneurin)
Organisation
The second block begins the same as in block 1, with the in-possession RED team having possession in a 3v2 situation in the central zone. - FB's and wingers placed in channels. Defending team play with 1-3-2 formation.
4 x 3 minute blocks, 1 minute break with terminal intervention.
Explanation
Once ball moves into zone A, the defending FB can defend normally in the 2v1 situation. Wingers on RED team must decide to execute the 2v1 situation or circulate the ball back through the middle, initiating a switch in play for the opposite winger and FB to execute a 2 v 1 situation on the other side – as pictured. The players inside have the option to circulate to the opposite side or rotate the ball back to the winger who initially received it. As in Part 1,once the ball progresses beyond zone A, RED team will have 6 seconds to execute a cross in a 5 v 4 situation with the normal offside rule in effect.
If one of the defending full-backs recovers possession of the ball in ZoneA, they quickly attack forward and try to score in one of the two small goals within a time count.
Conditions,Challenges & Target
Limited time in possession for the Blues and restricted touches in they’re having too much possession.
Scoring directly from a cross from Zone A is worth 3 goals. Scoring directly from across from Zone B will be worth 2 goals. Scoring off a second ball will be worth 1 goal.
Once there is a goal, a long clearance or the ball goes out of bounds, a new ball will begin in the central 5 v 3 situation with a Red CB in possession.
Additional Key Points in Possession
Wingers Movement - Both wingers should provide maximum width. While the ball is circulating in the 5 v 3zone, they must remain visually connected to the play and time their movement to receive between the lines when their teammate is ready to play the pass.
2 v1Detail - As pass travels to winger, full-back must begin their overlapping action to create the 2v1 situation.
- The winger must take a clean first touch towards the FB to ‘fix’ them, giving time and space for the full-back to receive cleanly to execute the cross.
Crossing Technique
- As the full-back is overlapping, they must look up to identify possible targets in the box.
-Prioritise two techniques: a whipped ball on the ground in behind the defensive line, if there is a large space between that line and the goalkeeper; or a driven cross to the second post.

Organisation
5 yards in from each touchline x 60 yards with full size goals both ends, 2 x 8 yard vertical boxes in each corner marked by flat discs
9 v 9,both teams playing in 3-4-1 with GK
Explanation
When defending, only one defender at a time is permitted in either Zone A or Zone B.Can be one defender in each zone at the same time, but two defenders cannot be in the same box at once.
When attacking, a maximum of two players can be in each of the zones at a given time. Means the team in possession are always able to create 2 v 1 situations. No corners, if the ball goes out, play begins with defending team’s GK.
Conditions,Challenges & Target
If team possession scores directly from a cross from Zone A, it is worth 3 goals. Scoring directly from a cross from Zone B is worth 2 goals. Any other kind of scoring is worth 1 goal. Offside rule is in effect.
Key Points in Possession
Ball Possession
Maintain quick ball circulation to rotate possession from side to side and disorganize opposition.
Passes to back foot where possible/appropriate.
Wingers Movement
Both wingers should provide maximum width, on the back shoulder of their opposing full-back.
While the ball is circulating, they must time their movement to receive between the lines.
Use feints to lose their markers and create space for them to receive cleanly.
Wide Overload Detail
Winger and full-back on ball side must remain connected in order to take advantage of 2v1 situations.FB look to make late runs to support the winger (see diagram)
Forward and attacking midfielder must make diagonal runs behind the full-back.
After 3-4 passes on one side, the team must have the collective thought to switch play to create a new overload on the other side.
Recirculate the Ball
As ball is recirculating to other side, the forwards, midfielders and wingers must be aware of opportunities to make diagonal runs ‘inside’ to earn one goal.
On the ball rotation, the opposite full-back provides the width while the winger positions ‘inside’ in order to create the possibility of making diagonal runs behind full-back.
Runs in the Box
In Zone A, the forward, opposite winger and attacking midfielder must be ready to receive in behind the defensive line.
In Zone B, the forward should look to position on the back shoulder of the second centre-back, with an attacking midfielder positioning around the penalty spot to receive a cut-back.
Key Points Out of Possession
|Be aggressive defending in wide areas, try to isolate the player in possession.
Play a tight offside line, pushing the line up when there is a backwards pass.
Protect the middle
Leave the furthest player
Interventions
Terminal during the breaks
Concurrent to encourage ball speed, movement off the ball and timing of runs
Coaching process (if repeated action/mistakes occur)
Walk through if further clarification needed

Block 1(Amlyn)
Organisation
Half pitch length, 5 yard in from touchline either side, 10 yard channel from touchline both sides central area 15x15 yards blue line closes pitch corners off Full goal one end and 2 small goals on half way line in central channel the other side. Balls placed mainly by the 2 small goals .8v5 with gk with attacking team in Red in a 3-4-1 formation - FB's and wingers placed in channels. Defending team play with 2-3 formation.
4 x 3 minute blocks, 1 minute break with terminal intervention.
Explanation
Coach plays ball to one of CB's on red team who have a 3v2 in the central zone. Red team must make 3 passes inside the central zone before playing out to one of the wingers positioned to receive between the lines. If blue team recovers possession, they aim to score in one of the two small goals within a time count. The full-back on the ball side overlaps the winger to execute a 2 v1 (mannequins can be used). Once the ball progresses into the last third play becomes a 5 v 3+GK with the normal offside rule in effect. The attacking five is comprised of striker, the ball-side winger and full-back, the far-side winger and one attacking midfielder from the central zone. Red team has 6seconds to cross the ball into the box and attempt to score.
Key Points in Possession
Find the spare player - maintain quick ball circulation in the 5v3 situation and rotate possession from side to side
Player movement to create the overload -. As the winger plays the pass to the overlapping FB, they should be accelerating to beat their direct mark towards goal in order to be another option to receive the cross and score.
Inter change positions - as the 2v1 situation is developing, the forward, attacking midfielder and far-side winger must be anticipating their runs to join the attack
Commit the opponent - The pass from winger to overlapping full-back must be played at the moment the full-back is one step ahead of the winger. This stops the opposing full-back having time to recover their defensive position.
Ball speed- execute passes to teammates’ back foot to allow quick movement of the ball and use crisp passes into the wingers receiving in the wide zones.
Key Points Out of Possession
Recognize opposition movement
Press quickly defend the 3v2 aggressively
Protect the middle
Leave the furthest player
Isolate the player on the ball
Interventions
Terminal during the breaks
Concurrent to encourage ball speed, movement off the ball and timing of runs
Coaching process (if repeated action/mistakes occur)
