Final Third (10 mins)

Welsh Way Principle
  • Understand when and how to combine, create and finish in the attacking third.

Organisation

  • 40m Length and 18 yard box wide.
  • 3v3 in the middle of the area with 2 common players (Yellow) on the outside of the area. 2 Goalkeepers in (Green)
  • 3 Periods of 3 minute plays with (1 minute break in between each play)
Explaination
  • The aim and objective of the team in possession is to move the ball quickly from their goal kick through to the opposite side of the area and try to score or create goal scoring opportunities and also to create 3v2 overload situation in the opposition defending area using 2 common players and the striker in the area, either playing out wide or breaking through the lines to strikers feet.
Coach
  • The coach will work with the team in possession (red team) talking to them through possession principles playing out from the back, common players positioning high and wide and transition from attack to defence. If the Blues wins possession from the red's they will play from where they have won the ball and try and quickly create create and or score a goal.
Condition, Challenges and Targets
  • The 2 common players can enter either box and can score in either box but they can only score after the striker has touched the ball at least once.
  • The striker in either box can only score with 1 touch finish.
  • The common players touch from playing out from the back must be forward and in front of them.
  • If the striker has touched the ball but can't score then the common players can score at anytime.
  • If the situation and scenairo does not present itself for common players to score or play into strikers feet they can play back to the defender to re start the process and try to switch the play to try success the other side.
  • Can the team in possession quickly create 3v2 overload.
  • Unlimited touches and passes for the players in the inside.
