Ball Mastery - Dynamic (15 mins)

Organization

- Each player will have a ball and will perform a dynamic ball mastery move from their own small cone to the jumbo cone and back
- Ball mastery exercises will take around 45 seconds x 2

Ball Mastery Exercises:

1. Insides forward and backwards

2. Toe taps forward and backwards

3. Roll stop 

4. Outside touch scissor

5. Stepover outside touch

Coaching Points:

  • - Knees bent for lower centre of gravity, and on balls of feet
  • - Check up and down with their heads here and there (look up and down)
  • - Sell and be committed to the move, don't be robotic about it

Passing & Receiving on Half Turn (15 mins)

Organization

  • A player will start with the ball on the flat marker and will dribble towards the single big cone, making a move
  • After making the move, the player will dribble in between the flat markers and will pass the ball to wall
  • As the ball returns, player will perfrom a half turn in between the flat markers and will dribble to the single big cone, making a move
  • They will then pass it off
Coaching Points
  • Dribbling technique - eyes up, touch step dribble, selling the move
  • Half turn - shift body weight to go to where you want to turn
  • Mobility - moving away from defender to create separation and space for the first touch
    • Double movements to fool defender (faking one way to go to the other to create time and separation from defender)

  • Dribbling Technique - knees low, chest over the ball, touch step dribble
  • Turning technique - shift body weight as the ball is touched, lean to where you want to go
  • Angle of support - as soon as player bounces the ball, can they now create an angle of support where they can see their obejective and the ball

1v1 Receiving & Turning (15 mins)

Organization

  • There will be one server (coach) and a player from each team
  • One player (red) will receive the ball from the server looking to dribble through one of the gates and score on the net for one point
  • The defender (blue) will try to win the ball and play it to the coach for a point
Coaching Points
  • Angle of support - as soon as player bounces the ball, can they now create an angle of support where they can see their obejective and the ball
  • 1st Touch - first touch should evade the pressure
    • Against the player's momentum (e.g. player moving right, evade pressure by going left) or to space - this is a decision made by player and by the situation
  • Mobility - moving away from defender to create separation and space for the first touch
    • Double movements to fool defender (faking one way to go to the other to create time and separation from defender)
