Warm Up (10 mins)

Objective -
To warm up and prepare for the technical and mental components of the session.


Description -
GK1 will react to the coloured cones that GK2 holds up. For example, if GK2 holds up a green cone, GK1 will move to the cone before performing a spread block/foot save. If GK2 holds up a red cone, GK1 will move to that cone before performing a low diving block save. GK3 will load the balls for coach as the drill is continuous for 6 balls.

Technical Activation (10 mins)

Objective -
To perform effective action relating to 3 varying cutback balls.


Description -
GK1 will move forward toward the server and receive a low cutback ball from GK3, they will return this ball, stand up and receive a volley from GK2. GK3 will then play a pass to the Coach who will play a first time strike on the right small goal (service should be firm and purposeful 6/10 power). Each GK will rotate after 4, swap sides.

Phase One - 1v1/Cutback Situations (15 mins)

Objective -
To react in 1v1 match scenarios and select the correct effective action to prevent a goal scoring opportunity.


Description -
Coach will play the ball to GK2 who will bounce the ball back to Coach and peel out to the left. Coach will then play a first time pass to either GK2 or GK3 who will take a touch and strike on goal. GK1 must decide whether to come and close down the play with the ball if they have a heavy touch, or maintain their set position and wait for the strike.

Phase One Progression - 1v1/Cutback Situations (15 mins)

Objective -
To react in 1v1 match scenarios and select the correct effective action to prevent a goal scoring opportunity.


Description -
Coach will play the ball to GK2 who will bounce the ball back to Coach and peel out to the left/right. Coach will then play a first time pass to either GK2 or Coach may run at the goal themselves. Once the first attempt on goal has been made, GK1 will reset at the near post, where GK3 will play a cutback into the area and attempt to find Coach or GK2. GK1 must either collect the cutback, or recover to block the shot from Coach or GK2.

Phase Two - Match Scenarios (10 mins)

Objective -
To react in 1v1 match scenarios and select the correct effective action to prevent a goal scoring opportunity.


Description -
Coach may pass to either GK2 or GK3 who may take a touch and strike on goal. They may also drive into the area to create a 1v1 scenario. GK2 or GK3 may also choose to bounce the ball back into the area (around the penalty spot) for Coach to run on to. GK1 must then decide whether to intercept the ball or come out for a block save.
