Description

What is the aim of the session? SMART targets

S - The skill this drill targets is weak foot shooting.

M - This type of skill will be tracked by the amount of shots taken by goals scored.

A - This skill should be achieved when the player scores more than half of the even number of shots taken.

R - This is relevant for my player because they will be able to perform this on the pitch due to their position they may have a chance only on their weak foot to shoot inside or outside of the box.

T - This should be achieved in the time frame of the session.

Participant details:

Age - 17

Gender - male

Number of participants - 12

Ability level - U19s fit reasonable player

Medical history - No

Roles and responsibilities

Leader - Geraint Cummins

Coach - Geraint Cummins

First aider - Tim Craig

Equipment -

Cones, balls, mannequin, goals.

This is suitable for the players because the pitch is a high quality standard and there are multiple emergency exits. There is first aid equipment and staff available in case of an emergency and the sports equipment is up to standard.

The rules that will be used to ensure my session is safe are that balls must not be kicked once the session has been stopped. When moving cones and mannequins only the coach must touch them. No contact during the drills. Everyone must take part because there is a role for each person to fill during each drill.

Once the session is finished I will ask for feedback from the players if they felt included, if they feel they learned something and if it was challenging.

for this drill, the player at the front of the cue will pass the ball into the player on the edge of the box where they will play a pass into the box for the player to run on to and take a shot with their weak foot. They can have maximum of two touches to shift the ball back onto their weak foot if need. Once the player has shot they will then take the role as the player who sets and the player who just set will join the back of the queue.

Coaching points for this drill would be to lean over the ball as you strike to create power as you keep the ball low, how to curve your run to come onto the ball at a better angle and what part of the foot to use.

A progression for this drill would be that they can only have one touch meaning they must be able to shift their body if need, because this may happen in a game. A regression for this drill would be that they can use two touches to set up their weak foot.

This drill will be targeting weak foot shooting. Two lines will be set with both right foot and left foot players on their weaker side. A player will start on the penalty spot, make a short quick run to set the first man with the ball who will play a pass and receive a bounce from the running player. They will then take a first time shot with their weaker foot towards goal once they have took their shot they will turn around and then set the player on the other side who is ready with a ball.

Coaching points for this drill would be how to position your body depending on the part of the goal you want to shoot in, what part of your foot to use with the way you want to shoot and how to look at the goal keeper's positioning.

A progression for this drill would be that two mannequins will be placed either side on the penalty spot to make the angle smaller and more like a game scenario. A regression would be to take these mannequins out to open up the angle again.

This drill will help the players get used to using their weak foot for passing and shooting. The players will be set out in a diamond like shape to then perform a passing sequence using their back foot to take a touch then their weak foot to pass the ball. Once it gets to the end man they must pass the ball into the goal, to get used to putting height on the ball with their weak foot. The rotation will be that you follow your pass and the person who shoots the ball will start of the next sequence so they will need to make a short burst of pace to start again with it being the first team to seven goals wins.

Coaching points would be how to pass the ball straight, communicate with each other, what foot to play and receive and how to score the final goal.

A progression would be that on the final pass it must be in the air and not touch the ground until it hits the goal if it does then the goal does not count. If this becomes too easy then on the third man pass the 4th man will bounce them the ball, then the third man will play the 5th to then take a touch and shoot. The rotation stays the same. A regression for this drill would be to play all passes along the floor.
