Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): Shooting focus
Description
A session focusing on shooting
Starting with technique and looking at different ways to shoot, then creating an opposed setting for players to either beat their man through movement and then the shot, then one vs one , either beating the player or taking the shot off quick.
The SSG size encourages players too shoot.

Shooting on-two opposed (15 mins)
Key Factors
- Shooting technique, especially under pressure
- Movement
- Condition- Area of foot ball is struck with
- condition- ball played to feet to create a direct one v one with defender
Organisation
- one of attackers becomes defenders, creating a one on one
- attacker passes to player on outside then makes a run into box to receive the ball and shoot first time

Shooting one v one (15 mins)
Key Factors
- Movement to receive the ball
- technique when striking the ball
- Being able to beat defender/take shot early
Organisation
- Shooter passes to outside player who passes back, the player is left with a one vs one against defender
- defender switches with passer

Shooting focus - SSG (20 mins)
Key Factors
- Players encouraged to take half chances
- Attackers expected to follow up shots for rebounds
- Progression- Two players from attack can join defence to create a 4v4
- Condition- Give players targets - bottom corner, shots from defence etc.
Organisation
- 7v7 including keepers, pitch is halved so 4v2 in each half- 4 attackers, 2 defenders to encourage shots
- if defenders shoot must be from their section or pass to attacking team mates if they win back ball
- pitch is 50x30 to encourage shooting
