General notes:
In possession, shooting - ball mastery practice
Aims and objectives:
Ball mastery and skills. Foxes tails with ball, goals and shootingg zones. Each player has a ball- they must dribble the ball across the area whilst the DF in the middle tries to steal the ball. They must also carry out a skill that the coach calls out: 1 to 5.
1: drag back
2: step over and push
3: inside foot /outside foot
4: maradona turn
5: Cruyf turn
Organisation and setup:
Setup an area that gives them enough room to RWB / dribble from one side to other and to complete the skill. setup shooting zones at both ends with goals to finish in. Once the player is in the shoting zone they must finish as quickly as possible and cannot be tackledd by the DF.The focus is on ball mastry so use STEP to ensure the space is suitable. One player in the middle acts as the defender and needs to steal a ball and then pass it to the coach. The coach shouts a skill number and the players on the side line move from one side to the other lookig at the correct time to perform the skill before getting to the other side.
Coaching factors and outcomes:
Encourage ball mastery, close control and skills. When is the correct time to complete the skill? Can the players do the skill to pass the defender? Look for speed change - when to slow and when to accelrate to get to the other side, but always keeping the ball under control.
Players must complete their skill before getting into the shooting zone, then must score as quickly as possible. Look to score whilst still running with the ball.
Adaption:
DF can go into the shootinng zones
Increase number of defenders
Pair players, one DF one A - they can only tackle their partner
Coaching points#1
- When RWB use laces
- Keep the ball close and under control
- When is the right time to change speed
- Technical aspects of each skill
- Where to put the non shooting foot
- Shooting foot follow through
- accuracy over power

Technical Part of foot to use, where to plant foot, body shape |
|
Tactical Accuracy over power |
|
Physical Power of shot |
|
Psychological Positive attitude, confidence, commitment, concentration |
|
Social Work together, make a good pass so your friend can shoot |
General notes:
In possession, shooting
Aims and objectives:
Create an environment that removes pressure and focus is on the technique of shooting whilst the ball is moving towards you. When to plant non shooting foot? How and where to put none shooting foot? Power is in the pass, go for accuracy over power. Use inside of foot to put the ball in the bottom corner if possible. Lots of repitition to gain an understanding of the movement of the ball and the technique needed.
Organisation and setup:
Use full size area of the pitch to give relevance to match day. Two red cones, 1 and 2 and two yellow cones 3 and 4. Player 1 passes to player 2, who shoots first time if possible, gets ball from the goal and runs to yellow 3. Player 3 passes to player 4 who shoots first time if possible, gets ball from goal and runs to red 1. Keep rotating and focus on the shooting players.
Coaching factors and outcomes:
Body position, shape, when to plant the foot and which part of the foot to use. Some of the players already understand when to hit the ball when its travelling towards them, some of the others swing the shooting leg to soon or too late and miss the ball. Look for lots of repition to help with timing, work on the technical aspects of plating the foot, pointing the foot towards the goal, where to hit the ball, which part of the foot to use, following through towards the goal.
Working from both sides is to help them understand the ball coming across the body, as well as coming directly to the shooting foot.
Can the players try and hit the target with every shot.
Adaption:
Add a GK
The player passing the ball runs to defend after passinng
Use both feet
Coaching points#1
- timing, when to strike the ball
- Where to put the non shooting foot
- Point the non shooting foot in the direction you're shooting
- Shooting foot follow through
- accuracy over power
- which part of the foot to use

SSGs (10 mins)
General notes:
In Possession, shooting practice.
Aims and objectives:
Arrival activity, put bibs on players as they arrive and put them into teams of 2v2 or 2v3 or 3v3. Setup two SSGs, let them start to play and observe in possession shooting techniques - what have they picked up from the previous sessions.
Organisation and setup:
Setup two pitches with mini goals at either end. Use flat markers or cones and create enough space to promote shooting. If the ball goes out of play the other team can throw, kick or dribble the ball back in.
Coaching factors and outcomes:
As an arrival activity let them all play for 5 mins until everyone has arrived, watch what they do and how they do it, but let them play. Bring them in and discuss the coaching factors from the previous sessions.
How to shoot? Technique? Which part of the foot? Accuracy over power
Adaption:
Add extra goals to encourage more shooting
Create overrloads 3v2,
Increase the size of the pitch to create space to shoot

- Which part of the foot to use
- Where to put the non shooting foot
- Shooting foot follow through
- accuracy over power
