Skill (15 minutes)
This builds on the technical exercise by introducing a defender. The defender stands on the cone and can only move once the pass is played into the attacker. Every goal prevented is a point to the defender and goalkeeper. Every goal scored is a point to the attacking team. The aim of the game for defenders and goalkeepers to score more points than the duo performing the same roles in the other group. For the other players the aim is to outscore the opposing team.
Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):
Progressions: Remove the cone and allow defenders to move before pass is played. Maximum one touch for attackers before taking a shot. Requirement to shoot first time.
Regressions: Bring all the cones closer to the goal to reduce the shooting distance from goal.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
Challenges: Shoot low. Shoot in corner.
Conditions: Change surface of foot used to shoot.
Targets: Both teams are attempting to score as many goals as possible while defenders and goalkeepers are trying to prevent as many goals as possible. The target is to outscore the other team both in terms of goals prevented and goals scored.
Shooting mechanics that can be focussed on via interventions in this practice:
1) Identify target
2) Body position in relation to ball
3) Arms out for balance
4) Non-kicking foot beside the ball
5) Head over the ball
6) Select surface & strike
7) Follow through towards target

Small Sided Game (15 minutes)
Small sided game using a third of a full pitch with the aim of the reduced pitch size encouraging players to take more shots on goal. Kick ins used instead of throw ins in this game to allow for the ball to be under control by players for a larger amount of time. Balls placed within the goal so goalkeepers can simply play using on of them if ball goes out for a goal kick. No corners - goal kicks used instead in order to increase ball rolling time.
Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):
Progressions: Make the pitch size larger. Don't allow teams to take shots from their own half.
Regressions: Make the pitch size smaller to facilitate a greater number of shots. Make two of the players neutral players who play on the side of the team with the ball, in order to create a greater number of attacking overloads and therefore facilitate a greater number of shots being taken
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
Challenges: Try scoring with a low shot into a corner. Try scoring with different parts of your foot, Try scoring by shooting after taking just one touch of the ball beforehand.
Condition: Maximum three touches in own half.
Targets: Which team can score more goals. Could add a goal every time a shot goes on target or take away a goal every time a shot is saved by a goalkeeper

Small Sided Game - Creativity (15 minutes)
5 vs 5 plus two neutral players (wearing yellow in diagram) who play on the team which has possession.
Small sided game using half of the pitch with the aim of the reduced pitch size allowing for more player entries into the final third. Kick ins used instead of throw ins in this game to allow for the ball to be under control by players for a larger amount of time. Balls placed within the goal so goalkeepers can simply play using on of them if ball goes out of play behind their goal. No corners - goal kicks used instead in order to increase ball rolling time. Final thirds made visible on the pitch through the use of disk markers (yellow in diagram).
One point awarded for a goal scored
One additional point awarded for each goalscoring team player within the final third when a goal is scored
One additional point awarded for a goal scored with a sequence of five or more passes in the buildup
One additional point awarded for a goalscoring team player dribbling past an opponent in the lead-up to a goal
Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):
Progressions: Only allow shots from within the final third. Introduce a three touch limit for players on the ball. Reduce number of neutral players or remove concept entirely.
Regressions: Increase the number of neutral players who play on the side of the team with the ball, in order to create a greater number of attacking overloads and therefore facilitate a greater number of opportunities for creating chances to score goals.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
Challenge players to start and finish an attacking move leading to a goal within a time limit of 15 seconds.
Shooting mechanics that can be focussed on via interventions in this practice:
1) Identify target 2) Body position in relation to ball 3) Arms out for balance 4) Non-kicking foot beside the ball 5) Head over the ball 6) Select surface & strike 7) Follow through towards target
Passing mechanics that can be focussed on via interventions in this practice:
1) Look at target 2) Eye on ball 3) Angle of approach 4) Non-Kicking foot alongside ball in a comfortable position 5) Strike centre of the ball with inside / outside of foot (identified area of the ball) 6) Firm Ankle 7) Follow through towards the target
Dribbling mechanics that can be focussed on via interventions in this practice:
1) Keep ball close 2) Vary surfaces of the foot (inside/outside/sole) 3) Keep head up 4) Look to change of pace 5) Look to change of direction

Technical
Technical (15 minutes)
Two groups of five (four outfield players and one goalkeeper) each set up as displayed in the diagram.
Setup can be adapted depending on numbers - all that's needed in this case is for another cone and passer to be accommodated for when it comes to each player addition.
The first player (the one nearest to the three balls in the diagram) feeds the ball into the player stood to their right, that player then passes to player directly stood in front of them. Then that player passes to a player stood near cone to their left. That final player then peels off the cone to receive the ball, controls the ball and then shoots. The player who shoots then runs back to become the feeder and start the move again. Footballs are placed closely behind the initial feeder position in order to ensure the session runs more smoothly.
Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):
Progression: Make it a one touch limit before a shot takes place.
Regression: Bring all the cones closer to the goal to reduce the shooting distance from goal.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
Challenges: Shoot low. Shoot in corner.
Conditions: Change surface of foot used to shoot. Change nature of first touch and starting position, using cone as reference
Targets: Each group to collectively try to score five goals
Shooting mechanics that can be focussed on via interventions in this practice:
1) Identify target
2) Body position in relation to ball
3) Arms out for balance
4) Non-kicking foot beside the ball
5) Head over the ball
6) Select surface & strike
7) Follow through towards target
