Setup: red 3-2-1-2 blue: 4-2-2
Gk punts ball long to front 2 who have 2 touches between them to shoot. If score 1 goal, keeper starts from goal kick same if it goes wide. If saves, game is live. Can blue play through units to score. If red steals, they have 5 passes to score (6 if steal in own half)
Blues challenge: Can the back 4 dribble out past the flags for 1 pt?
This is to encourage blues to play out from the back giving more opportunities to see the strikers defend. Looking at angles of recovery when possible.
Reds challenge: Can they steal before flags for 3 goals?
This is to encourage the reds to be aggressive in their press. As the ball travels we are looking for sprints towards closing the space and then decision making on intercepting/tackling or containing to force a mistake.
Individual challenge: can a centre mid drop in to recieve to give new reference point to defend against
Condition: If playing against a technically superior side, drop the reds starting position to the flags. Reduce the space behind and force the blues to either pass through or play long where we have a numerical advantage.
Coaching Points
How: body shape and angle of run encourage inside to create trap
When to press: as the ball travels sprint to get tight
Where to press: high up if possible on back 4. If not, drop deeper and be compact
Why press: to steal from opposition and exploit space quickly
Communication: front 2 should be aware of each others angles and get into shape quickly.

Setup:
RED: 2-1-2 BLUE: 4-2
Game:
Red centre mid takes a ball from 1/2 way and hits the reds front 2 (with CAM) who perform a combination and shoot on goal (must be outside the box - max 3 sec to shoot). If they score they get 1 point. Play starts from a goal kick if goal is scored or ball goes wide. If keeper saves, game is live. Can blue play out from the back and score into the small goal. If Red steals they must be direct and exploit defensive out of shape.
Condition: GK cannot punt long. Red team has maximum 5 passes before shooting upon regaining possession.
Problem: Blues are playing out from the back easily due to reds overcommitting or quick transition.
Solution: Retreat the front 2 back to the yellow flags which are our trigger point for when we press as the ball enters.
Problem: Opposition look technically deficient playing out from the back
Solution: If the reds can steal the ball from the back 4 and score 3 goals. If they can steal before the yellow flags and score 2 goals.
Coaching Pts:
Positioning - split between the centre back and full back
Body shape - face goal and encourage inside
Run - bend wide to encourage inside
Trigger - as ball travels do we get tight or retreat into deeper press?
