1st/2nd defender SSG (25 mins)
5v5 1st/2nd defender SSG. 3v2 in each half when restarting from goal (keeper & 2 defenders). If the 3 play into attacking half, 1 player goes to support to create a 3v2 in attacking half. When play breaks down, restart from either goal again. Defending from the front and defending near own goal. Switch roles after a set period of time.
Instruction points :
- Delay the penetration (dribble, pass or strike) with pressure
- make attacker's eyes go down to ball
- make play predicatble (sideways or backwards)
- Support on angle to deny central areas of pitch for penetration (dribble, pass or strike)
- 2nd defender body shape watching ball but open to other attacker "one and a half jobs"
- Communication to stay on own side, don't follow ball around
- press & drop (elevators)
- when defending from front, drop to deny central passing lanes when ball goes back to keeper
