This session is intended to improve our ability to transition from when THEY have the ball to WE have the ball.

Rondo 8v2 (10 mins)

Objective: mental and physical activation game for the training session.

Set-up: 10x10 grid. 10 players.

Instructions:  players play 1 touch keep away.  If the defenders win the ball they drop the vests and transition quickly into the possession.  

Timing:  Play 4 minutes, stretch on their own 2 minutes, play 4 minutes then go into dynamic stretch.

Coaching Points: (1) quality of passes, (2) receiving the ball open across our body, (3) proper passing and receiving, movement to fill in spaces, fast transitions from defending to attacking and from attacking to defending.

Dynamic Stretch (5 mins)

Dynamic Stretches:  (1) Legs apart, bounce L, C, R (5x), (2) Calves 1, 2, 3 switch (2x each leg), (3) Knee to chest into Figure 4 with footwork in between (2x each), (4) Quad stretch with footwork in between (2x each) (5) Speed skater with footwork in between (2x each), (6) Spiderman/Rollback (4x each), (7) Reverse RDL + Reverse lunge + Overhead reach (4x each), (8) Open/Close the Gate (4x each), (9) Lateral lunge (2x each), (10) Squat Jumps (4x each)

4v2 to 6v4 Rondo (15 mins)

Objective: improve our pressing and counter pressing as a team.

Organization: 14x20 grid with 8x10 grid inside.

Instructions: Players play 4v2 inside small grid. When 2 wins the ball they to 4 on the outside and then play 6v4. The 4 must try to keep the ball from leaving the small grid. If it gets out press and win the ball back and get it back into the small grid.

Variations: create a competition. 5 players get a point for 6+ passes in a row while the 4 get a point for winning the ball back and get it into grid.

Key Coaching Points:  (1) Closest player pressure the ball, (2) Other players not near the ball anticipate where it might leave the grid close down those options, (3) Pressing together as a team; (4) 1 and 3 concept of pressing;

(5) Funneling.

TG 8v5 EXPAND (20 mins)

Objective:  improve our ability to POTB

Organization:  8v5.  Half field + 5 yards.  Two forwards + 3 lines of attacking players VS 152 formation.  

Instructions:  First 3 players bring ball on to join the two forwards.  They have 10 seconds to score.  Once 152 team wins the ball they need to expand.  Score in the counter goals.  

Coaching Points:  (1) back 3 create full width of 18 or center 3 lanes, (2) wing backs get full width of the field and join the midfield 2, (3) get the ball across the midline OR into a counter goal.

11v11 1532 Formation (20 mins)

Objective: improve our ability in We Phase 2/3 in 1532 formation.

Organization:  Full field.  

Coaching Points:  (1) when we win the ball EXPAND, (2) back 3 center backs create full width of 18, (3) if 3v2 the wide center backs need to release into the attack, (4) the 2/5 create full width and join center mids.
